I did it too. Very nice mod. However, I went with a set of reproduction wheels - cost was $1100 and I kept my stock wheels.

I had the Magnesium as OEM. Bought some Chromies, and I could not believe the difference in weight.
The Mags just make it feel really light. The Aftermarket chromies show a dramatic appearance factor over the Mags, so it's a trade-off.

I have the OEM wagon wheels chromed...and if it wasn't for the chrome they would be long gone. There is something about the shine that makes a huge difference in the look. When I do upgrade, it will def be with chromies!!!!!

Chrome is nice but I like the look of polished aluminum more. Aluminum can be made to shine extremely bright but it gives you that white raw metal shine that looks great on sports cars. Don't get me wrong, I love chrome wheels but not so much on sports cars as on a high end luxury vehical. Just my opinion.

A set of aftermarket chromes weigh on average 8-10 lbs more per wheel than OEM. A set of chromed OEM wheels average around 3 lbs more per wheel.

Ditto, but the appearance trade off is worth the .00001 seconds I lost in the 1/4 mile!

I went from brushed aluminum to chrome and it made a huge visual difference on my black coupe. So glad I did it.

I agree about the appearance factor. I had the Polished Alluminum set on my 99Z28 and when I saw it next to other Zs with the brushed allum wheels there was definitely a difference.
I must say though...with Yellow paint and red leather interior...I don't think I can make my new Z more noticeable
That is, unless I strap a giant bullhorn to the roof and play "Oh Fair Lady" while driving down the street
