Okay lets say I found the corvette for me except it has a cassette player instead of the in dash cd I want. How difficult is it to have it replaced with the bose cd stock stereo? and anyone have an idea how much?
thanks for the info.

You might find a Bose CD player for around $150 or so, but WHY? I suggest you get an aftermarket system. I bought a nice Alpine CD unit that is Ipod ready for about $180. I love it.

Take the unit out and look at the back to count the harness plugs. I'm pretty sure GM used two different head units between 1997-2004. However, if I recall correctly, they look identical from the front. Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in. BTW: I have a Bose CD unit and a 12 disc changer out of my '01 if your interested, shoot me a PM.
My 2000 had an AM-FM casette with the 12 disk changer in the trunk. I would never use a casette deck and I wanted the convienence of the single play CD in the dash as well as the changer. I bought a CD head unit from Ebay ($110) from a 2002. It was "plug & play" as they say. I sold the old casette for $65.00
I dont understand why you want to keep it looking stock...it will not increase your value. I mean if you are going to change out the head unit why not get something that will sound much better for a few more bucks? The Bose units really arent that good in my opinion but if you dont really care...its your car!

How much money do you have? I called GM to see what the replacement cost for the Delco radio/cd and it was --are you ready for this?---------------$1100. You can go to a salvage yard and pick the exact radio for about $200. I did it. The delco cd/radio is the same for all of the Chevy cars. My truck radio is exactly the same as my vette.
What other kind of system could you put in that will still look like it was suppose to be there. I have seen some vettes with some nasty looking radios in the dash that look terrible I at least want it to look like it was there always.
thanks for the tips everyone.
