Speeding Ticket in Illinois
Drove over to Indianapolis yesterday for the "500" and south of Effingham came over a rise and wham...speed trap with laser guns. They got me for doing 79 in a 65. I have never got a ticket in Illinois prior to this one and need some advice. Don't want this on my record for insurance purposes, and in Missouri you can have speeding pleaded to a lesser charge, like illegal parking. Can I do this in Illinois or am I stuck with this $75 fine and a black mark on my record? Thanks.
I got nailed in IL doing 88. This lawyer helped me, no record of the violation. I just paid a fine to IL and could not get another ticket in IL for 3 months and it all went away. Think the fine was 175.00 and he was about the same. In the long run considering insurance surcharging it was cheap.

To everyone on here.If you own a vette, get a radar detector if you dont have one.it will pay for itself. And get a good one,not a cheapy.passport 8500. or a V1 are 2 on here that most use.Its a no brainer.Hope you get your ticket taken care of.
Sorry to here that. The interstates in Illinois are thick with state troopers. When we go to funfest, We always stay on the two line roads. It is a much nicer drive.

They can't always help but a good radar detector is well worth the money.
Coming back from the CI in BG and took the Blue Grass to Lexington and North.
They had a trooper on a bridge shooting and state, local, sherrifs, and county LEOs were having a field day.
They had about 25 pulled over and there were three more LEOs waiting on the inside mediam waiting for more to be called ahead.
Thank the Good Lord for giving engineers the brains to build detectors and big brakes on a Vette.

being aware of your surrounds, having a very watchful eye, and a good radar and 99.9% you'll be good. The 00.1% is when they use their laser and you dont see em' in time.

Check and see if you can attend a Defensive Driving course - some states allow this as a way of keeping a moving violation off your record. Cost is about $50 + a processing fee, and you have to give up a four hour time period to attend the class.
JDOG,
What county is your ticket in? (I may be able to help, depending on which it is). It may have a defensive driving course you can take, or else look to get court supervision on the ticket (which usually lasts 3 to 6 months, depending on severity of offense - need to keep your nose clean during that timeframe). You'll have to pay $$ - the fine plus court costs,or the cost of the driving course, (usually around $50 -75), but it will keep the points off your driving record.
BTW, laser is tough to beat even with a detector; best defense is to run with a pack and hope the cops will either go after the front runner, or that you'll pick up a "blip" on your detector when the LEO paints the car ahead.
Don't know if it applies where you are, but I got a speeding ticket in Arizona a few weeks ago. Being a Texas resident, Arizona allowed me to take defensive driving, but I had to take it in Texas. They also wouldn't allow the internet course. But as said earlier, it pays in the long run with your insurance premiums not being effected.
