Default need some c5 instrument cluster info

Hey guys im new here, dont have a vette but id like to get one in a few years. Anyways I am in the process of installing a 98 vette instrument cluster into a custom street rod to compliment the 98 ls1 under the hood. I am just wondering if its just a matter of connecting wires to the back of the cluster or is the cluster connected to the body control module somehow? The cluster seems to display a ton of info (im not even sure how much it does) and Im really hoping to get at the very least the gauges to work correctly.

thank you
Jim

There are two plugs for the cluster. A main plug (larger of the two) that is the main information feed. The second is a 7 or 11 pin plug (depending on if it has HUD or Non-HUD) that controls illumination and/or the HUD. Go to the Vette Essentials website. They have excellent (detailed) instructions of disassembly of the C5 Cluster. Good Luck.

Nope just the one plug that goes into that spot. The other "pin" plug that I was referring to is on the left side (as you're looking at it.) and comes off of the cluster to plug into the instrurment control. All you should have to deal with is the one major plug. Hope I haven't confused you.

The Vette Essentials site will give you a clear understanding. Look under instructions for installing gauge bezels.

ok yea that makes sense then, thanks you have been a great help. Ive been researching this for what seems like months now. While im at it..ill pick your brains some more....provided I get a wiring diagram will it just be a matter of wiring the wires straight from the engine sensors to this cluster for the gauges??

Also what other features do these clusters have in the drivers information display??

I'm not going to S*it ya. If you start talking about wiring, you may want to post over in the Tech section for more qualified help....however, it is a plug and go, so I would suspect it would be as simple as wiring it as you indicate.

The DIC (Digital Information Center) has a ton of information. Everything from displaying tire and oil pressure, gas, mileage, trip odometers as well as facilitating options (which lights are on at certain times, alarm, training the key fob, etc). Good luck......
