Default Build date and Build Sheet ?

How can I find out the build date of my car down to the day?

Also I noticed that you can buy a build sheet for your car from the corvette museum. What kind of information is on that sheet - a list of all the parts that it took to build your particular car?

The build sheet will tell you the date and time your car was manufactured as well as the equipment that's in the car and give you the codes for each piece of equipment and/or option

The build sheet is a very nice piece of documentation to have, especially for the Corvette enthusiast. However, the build sheet itself will NOT tell you the date and time of your car's manufacture. There is a machine printed date and time at the very top right of the build sheet and this is the only printed date and time that appears on the build sheet. I'm not certain of the significance of this printed date and time, but again it is not the date and time of the car's manufacture. Remember the build sheet is produced sometime prior to the build start and accompanies the car down the assembly line as it is being built.

We took Museum delivery on our car in April 2003. As part of the delivery, we received a VIP tour of the assembly plant. During the tour, one of the plant employees presented us with one of the original copies of our car's build sheet. In the lower left corner of our copy of the build sheet just above the VIN, one of the plant workers had hand scribed our cars build completion date of 3-24-03 using a red grease pencil, thus the only reason the build date appears on our build sheet. Our car's build date of 3-24-03 is some 12 day after the machine printed date of 03/12/03 that appears on the build sheet.

In addition to all the build codes and RPO numbers, the build sheet also contains other information such as Dealer Order Number, VIN, front and rear shipping weight, Charge Code (to dealer), Ship Code (to dealer) and the Sequence Number.

Any GM dealer can inquire GM's system for your car's history if you can get them to do it. In addition to much of the same information that appears on the build sheet, this history data will also include your car's repair history that has been entered into the system and it will also show the cars build (completion) date. Several Forum members here have access to the this system and can also run this history info for you. Go to C5 General, start a new post requesting a history for your car and include your car's VIN in your post. Hopefully one of these members will come along shortly and run your car's history for you.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Spongebob gave me my build date as 12/18/97. The build sheet shows 12/7/97 if memory serves, so it does take a few weeks for the process. The later build date apparently is the major componet completion date.

I also thought it was the completion date, maybe it's the time and date it started down the assembly line? You always learn something here!
