Well after doing 3 installs of the C6 Shifter I decided that I wanted one for myself. The install is very easy. 8 10mm nuts, 3 #15 torx screws and 3 #40 torxs.
My recommendations is when you get to the 3 #40 torx to loosen the back right (this is looking at it from the driver's side), then take out the back left and then move to the front. Removing the Back left without the front screw is not a good idea. When replacing with C6 shifter put in the back left screw first making sure that it aligns with the notch that is on the shifter rod. Then lift the shifter up and over to align the other screws. Then tighten it all down. Start with the Front, then back right and then back left. This should ensure that your alignment is good.
I also used my stock C5 boot. I turned it inside out and pulled the glue end apart. I then cut both sides so that the C6 shifter would fit in it. Once I got the right fit I then used a heavy duty zip tie to make it fit snug around the C6 shifter. I then pulled the bottom over the shifter and snapped it all back in. Looks good IMHO.
The quality of the C6 **** is much better then the C5 and it took me a few mins to get the feel of it, but once I did the shifts became easier and I noticed that my elbow is no longer digging into the center console like it had to before to make shift changes.
Overall if you don’t want a Hurst or other aftermarket brand then you should consider the C6 shifter because it is much better than the stock C5 shifter.
ok ok I will post some darn pics- figured everyone was tired os seeing repeat C6 shifter installs.,...
Well another problem I thought I had pics, but instead I had to steal one from Patches.
Below you can see the 3 #40 torx that need to be remove. In the pic the shifter has been removed, but when buying the complete kit you only need to remove the 3 #40s and not the 4 3/8th that are shown in the 2nd picture.
Did the C6 shifter a few weeks ago...easy to do. I strongly recommend you also replace both transmission and differential fluids with synthetic, if you haven't done that yet. I think this completes the mod and really smooths out the shifts.
