I decided to go with a replacement window for my 2000' Vette instead of going wit a repair.I have window insurance with $0 Ded. and I requested OEM replacement. The insurance Co. said that they cannot go ahead and automatically authorize OEM replacement on anything older than a 2004' until they send an insurance adjuster to O.K. it. They couldn't tell me what the criteria was, so I am waiting for the adjuster to contact me.
My main concern is that I get a factory winshield replacement seal as I know that alot of non OEM windshields are O.K.
What I did was I called the auto glass place that would be doing the repair to get their opinion. They said that even with non OEM windshields they still will use OEM seals around the windshield. If this is so then I don't need to deal with the Ins. adjuster and I will just go ahead and make an appointment to have the windshield replaced.
I was also thinking that I would probably remove the windshield wipers and the plastic cowl on the lower portion of the windshield myself so there is less time spent hanging over my car and less of a chance for parts to be missing and/or scuffed up. Ofcourse, I will be waiting for the Vette to be finished as opposed to dropping it off and coming back when it is finished. Estimated time to complete was 3-4hrs. I was told.
What do you think?
I'd hold out for OEM I've had some of those replacement windshields in my company cars had to have one changed three times or I would of needed glasses
That's some crap the ins. co. is pulling but a lot of them do that I'd let them pay for the non-OEM and I'd pay the difference and have the shop drop in a authentic OEM, case closed & you don't have to worry about it.
