Default Appointment to fix all major known problems

Hi All,

This is my fifth Vette and third C5. First one with anything major being done to her. I just made an appointment with Tom Jumper Chevy in Roswell GA to address all known issues next Monday:

Rocking driver’s seat
Worn driver’s seat cushion
Fuel sending unit
Headlight motors
Column lock recall
Rattle in passenger window
Squeak in steering column
Squeak in suspension

I figure I'll have them lower it while it's there. I have an extended warranty on her. We'll see how this works out.

I know most people's opinions of dealers. but TJ is supposed to be one of the best.

Wish me luck...

Good luck, especially w/ a dealer. Post back when you get it back, but I'm willing to bet that all the squeaks and rattles don't get fixed. I hope they do for your sake.

Thanks for the encourgement.

TJ Chevy is supposed to be the premier Corvette service facility, with, at least the last I heard, two dedicated Corvette factory trained technicians.

The fuel gauge going to empty has not happened in the last three tanks, so maybe just a high sulpher batch of fuel. I haven't tried the Techron additive trick yet. The squeaks I can live with. Other than that, I appreciate the advise on the walk around. The last dealer that did my oil change misentered my mileage, so now I will probably show rollback on Carfax. I better get on that...

Good Luck with this stealership.

I approached them last year when I was looking to buy my Vette. They had what looked to be a perfect Vette - I called them and asked questions - everything looked rosy. I was about to book a flight down to see it (I'm in CT) when I ran a Carfax. Turned out to be a wreck that was fixed up, auctioned, resold etc. When I confronted them - they pretended they didn't know the history of the car.

Really???

Needless to say I passed on that car and got a beauty from a custom boat dealship that didn't try to rip me off.

So - like I said, good luck with this or any other stealership.

EG,

Lets hope the service department will be better. I have used them before with no problems, but not for anything as major.

Learn how to do the fixes yourself. I won't even let my own father's shop work on my stuff anymore.

If I had the time and patience I would, however with an extended warranty I can't justify even attempting to do it myself. Basic mods, yes, major service, no.

Yeah, don't confuse their sales dept. with the service guys. The vette techs at TJ are pretty good as techs go and have a very good rep here in Atlanta. Doesn't mean you don't have to stay on top of it - make sure you do a detailed walk-around when you drop it off. Several forum members here and many Peachstate Posse guys have had TJ work on their cars. (TJ has their own forum section at http://peachstateposse.com/forum). I think most would have good things to say. I know one who had the oil consumption re-ring job done there and they did an excellent job.

And don't forget to get a four-wheel alignment after driving it for a couple hundred miles once it's lowered. Make sure the alignment shop uses Hunter equipment.

Oh, and . . . good luck.

I had some work done on my car at TJ's service department a few months ago. They really did a good job on the fuel sending unit and fixed my drivers window binding up. I also had the rear end leak on the drivers side done.

I had been to another dealer that sold the car to me. They could not do half of the stuff I had requested. Supposedly they had done a full inspection of the car and missed the rear end leaking. Then they told me they ordered a new door panel for the window binding. It was not the door panel at all it was the regulator assy, and they never called to tell me the panel came in.

So after that experience I have to recommend TJ for service. They got it done right.

I have dealt with them before. They seem to be on top of things. Althought they were not able to find why my C-4 would start and then after a second or two shut off. A local shop found it to be a cell in the battery shorting out. You may also check out Bill Heard in Union City. They fixed my column lock and the squeak in the steering column. HINT! The squeak is under the hood where it comes through the fire wall. Just sounds like it was in the car. Good Luck...

Thanks all the the good wishes, and for the ATL crew good to hear your positive experiences with TJ Chevy.

I drop her off Monday, we'll see if it can all be done in a day and how much my extended warranty will pick up.
