Well, as some of you know, I am going through the process of finding a Z06.... I just drove one locally that had some minor mods on it and it sounded fantastic, so I would like to reproduce that if I could.
I don't have the car yet, but would like to purchase the parts at the same time I buy the car, so that it wont hurt as much....
The reason being, if I buy the car and say, "I will upgrade it in time"...
IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!
So I want my mods lined up for me when I pull it in the driveway...
Here is what I had planned, let me know what you guys think..
I want a nice deep throaty sound, but nothing crazy... The setup I heard was nice:
Borla X-pipe
Borla Stinger quad tip
Halltech stinger
I want to keep it simple, I will probably do headers at a later date, but to keep the price down a bit, I wanted to get those items....
Thoughts on the combos? or better setups... (with similar sound)
Is it possible to put all those on myself? I would like to save money and at the same time, learn a bit about my vette..?
The Halltech is a pretty simple self-install. For the exhaust stuff, you need to get the car on a lift to get the stock cat-backs off without cutting them. They are worth $400-$500 on the open market (C5 Parts For Sale section). But if you're planning headers later, I'd suggest you keep the stock Ti system in case you find the Borlas to be too loud once you do the headers. Most muffler shops would probably install the exhaust components for $50-$75 - I had Z06 cat-backs installed on my coupe for a grand total of $54 at a mom-n-pop muffler shop.

Hmm, interesting about the Headers... that will probably come WAAAY down the line... if at all, but good thing to think about... I will probably keep all the OEM stuff, either to sell, or to keep, just to keep... but selling it is probably the way to go.
Now, can I lift the car up my own, as mentioned on here, with rhinos, jacks, stands and pucks? If I can get them to install for 50 bucks, that would be worth it, but I don't think theres anyplace locally that would do it for that cheap.... dunno though

You could probably put the Stinger and the cat-backs on yourself (if you can get the bsack end up high enough), but for the x-pipe, you will have to cut the existing exhaust pipe behind the cats. Probably easier to have it done by a muffler shop. I'd say it would cost about $75-80 for them to do the x-pipe and the cat backs.
jmho, but most of the gain will be from the Halltech - maybe 10-15 HP on a Z06. Don't expect much if anything from the Borla's - except the sound difference.

I was kinda figuring that the exhaust might not make much difference over the Z06 exhaust... thanks for info.... I love the sound though... MAN that thing sounded mean, the one I drove...
Really? NO gain with X-pipe... If not then no need to spend 300 bones... how much gain would I see out of the Halltech/stinger setup?
There isn't a performance gain with the x-pipe but it will reduce the popping on deceleration and will also help a little to reduce resonance and/or drone. The x-pipe will smooth out the exhaust a little, which may or may not be something you'd like.
talked to a local muffler shop, he said, in order to install the cat-back, if he doesn' thave to cut anything or "remove the rear sway bar", then it will cost about 75 bux....
is the installation of the Borla that complicated? what has to be removed?
