Last night my wife and I put the top down and went for a little ride, I stopped at the stop sign on the edge of town, turned right on the main highway and got up to speed 55 (mph) before I reached the end of the medium. I have B&B PRT's on the car and they sound awsome. Anyway here comes the local LEO with lights on, I pull over and he comes up to the car, I told him ,"don't say I was speeding because I was never over 55"
He said I could be charged with careless driving, I never sqeeked the tires , was never out of control, just got to 55 really fast.. Is there a law on how fast you can get up to the legal speed limit??
I have always wondered about that. Because if you don't squeel the tires. they shouldn't be able to do anything. Unless the try some 'Disturbing the peace' because of the engine/exhaust. I tend to get up to speed quick. It always makes you want to say " Hop in the car officer let me show exactly what an improper take off is, so you will know in the future........"
Well, did he give you a ticket?? I've expierenced the same thing before. I usually take off pretty hard entering the Parkway but I rarely exceed the 65mph speed limit. An LEO stopped me once, he said that all he saw was a red blur...lol. Couldn't give me a ticket because I never exceeded the limit.
It's the old game. I was told years ago by a LEO that I couldn't drive 100 yards on the Hwy and not be in violation of some law in his opinion. Makes you want to cuss doesn't it. If he gave you a ticket, go to court.
It's a judgement call. Cops can give you a ticket for reckless driving if they see you doing something dangerous but they have to be able to justify the charge to a judge.
A friend of mine got a ticket for the same type of deal. At a light he took off and got up to speed and never broke the tires loose. The cop gave him a ticket for it and told him he didn't need to gun it like that to get up to speed. I believe he got it dropped at court.
