Default Alignment question....

Time for my first 4 wheel alignment. Do you guys recommend alignment set to the Z06 specs? Pro & Cons of doing so?
Thanks Larry

Do you have stock sizes or Z06 sized wheels? Do you track a lot? If not, the camber (or canter) of the Z06 spec will affect the tread wear (it would anyway)

Thanks, tread wear was one of my concerns. I didn't know how much difference there was in the two settings. I don't track it at all so I guess I'll just set it at the coupe factory specs.
Thanks again.

Larry,
If the alignment guy is good he will look at the tires on the car and check for any unusual wear.
The alignment should be done to correct any problems or if the tire wear is even, the alignment should remain similar.

You should not have the alignment set to Zo6 specs if you have runflats. The sidewalls on the runflats are stiff and the tires will not deal well with the Zo6 settings.

I've lowered my car on stock bolts and the alignment suggested that I be in the car when he aligned it! So what I'm trying to say is that there are a lot of things to consider!

Very important and often over looked ... in addition to a full tank of gas?

I align mine with a half-tank. I feel that it's the best compromise....

There is actually a lot of overlap between C5 specs and Z06 specs. Here are the Z06 alignment specs:
Specs:
Front Individual Toe: +0.04 degree +/- 0.10 degree
Front Sum Toe: +0.08 degree +/- 0.20 degree
Front Individual Caster: +6.9 degree +/- 0.50 degree
Front Cross Caster: within +/- 0.25 degree
Front Individual Camber: -0.70 degree +/-0.50 degree
Front Cross Camber: within +/-0.25 degree
Rear Individual Toe: -0.01 degree +/- 0.10 degree
Rear Sum Toe: -0.02 degree +/- 0.20 degree
Rear Individual Camber: -0.68 degree +/- 0.50 degree
Rear Cross Camber: within +/- 0.50 degree

What you should note is how much tolerance there is. For example, front camber is nominally -0.7, but can range from -0.2 to -1.2, which is a huge range. Technically, a shop could put the camber anywhere in this range and call it "in spec." You are a little protected by the cross camber spec of +/- 0.25, meaning each side can not be too far apart from each other.

With still run flats, you might not want as much negative camber as the nominal Z06 spec as the sidewalls are so stiff on the runflat.

Whatever, you decide, I suggest you be specific with your alignment shop. Instead of saying "I'd like the Z06 alignement", give them the exact alignment you want, such as -0.5 camber front, matched side to side. A good alignment shop should be able to hit this target within a tenth or two.
