I agree with the other posters. Your car isn't broken-in yet. However, knowing the past history on this subject and being an owner of an 01 Z with 41k miles, it is really a BAD SIGN that you are a qt low after 300 miles. GM probably will not fix the problem until you get 5k miles on it to be sure it is a problem so get busy with driving it. Also get the oil consumption test started with a dealership. You will most likely need a valley seal at the least and a rering at the worst.

My car was burning a qt per 800-1000 miles approaching 10k and getting worse in my opinion. The rate did not improve after 5k miles as I had hoped. Oil consumption test over 1000 mile period done and rering done at 11k and over 3 years ago. Now I go thru a qt every 3000 to 3500 miles which is perfectly acceptable in my opinion for a Z engine.

Good Luck

Then they submit the problem to GM and wait until GM decides what they want to do about it.
So he wants you to pay $600-700 worth of oil changes to tell you NO??
This pr*ck needs his azz kicked!!

The policy was to have the owner pay for the first change! Just to keep the yo-yo's from getting a freebee. BUT, all top offs after that were free, and you could come in as often as needed!! They would reset your trip log and avg mileage, just to let you know they were serious, if you even noticed! If it was below the DEALERS level,
then you got the valleypan replacement, and lastly if you yelled loud enough, the re-ring!!
Many dealers don't have people qualified to do the job!!
I have heard that the time allocation for that re-ring was hard for a Vette Tech to do??

If you have to go out of state, or do NOT deal with any Bill Heard dealership for service!!!
The Better Business Bureau has a ton of complaints about this a-hole from FL/GA/TX/AZ/NV and CA!!

Break the car in, then take the car to a dealer that will work with you!
Bill Heard WILL NOT!! They love to sell them, but Service is last on the list!!

My '01 has 41,000 miles on it. It has 30% oil life left now. Between now and the last oil change I've poured at least 3 quarts in it.

Oh well, I'm still smilin'

Thanks again everybody. I'll give it some miles and time and see what happens.
