Poker Run - question
In reading about the Poker Run that got busted on the Left Coast, I have one question as I never have participated in one.
Speeding between cities or locations to get the card...how do you know the deck wasn't "fixed" for the person before you or after you?
I have heard about a poker run coming up in my area and prizes are enticing. But for me, an outsider to the club conducting it, I have no idea how to "trust" the dealers at each stop.

You don't. Just have to trust the people putting it on.
First people have to understand a poker is not a race. I have been in alot of poker runs and you don't have to act like a nut to get to the next stop. You do have to trust the club that is running the poker run. Just think if the first one sucks there will not be a next year.
Poker runs are a LOT of fun ! They are a great way to have a fund raiser. They are NOT meant to be a gumball rally and a lot of times if you dont caravan in your poker run, you are timed so that you can not get a card if you come in before the time allotted. The route is mapped out and run at the speed limit in moderate traffic and given a time. If you show up before that time you have to sit and wait at your stop for your card.
A lot of poker runs are set up so the whole group caravans to each location together.
I was on one up in Washington State a few. The local club wanted to have everyone enjoy the scenery so all routes were planned accordingly. It was AWSOME !
Most of the poker runs I've been in you draw from a deck of cards and they write your card down on your sheet and replace the card in the deck so that everyone draws from a full deck!
The poker run I was on we caravanned and waited for every one to meet at the designated locations before drawing the cards. Then as was said the card was written down and after every one got a card they get placed back in the deck. It was not a race.

Hopefully the club or organization putting on the event would be honest and deal the cards properly as the participants came in. Otherwise, you have no idea if it is rigged or not.
I particiapted in one once where at each stop you picked up a card in a sealed envelope. You got to pick the envelope from a basket, so it was all totally random. I think they used 5 or 6 decks.
To make sure participants didn't cheat, the envelopes were all unsealed at the end, in front of a judge, and everyone's hands were recorded.
Anyone putting on a poker run may want to consider sealing the drivers' license in a marked envelope. We do it because if the envelope is torn, it usually means you got stopped by a LEO. Opened envelope=DQ

Excellent idea ! Would keep ALL of us from turning a fun event into a street race. (Davey boy..this is where you keep quiet and dont mention the BMW)
