Default Spark Plugs

Got 43000 on the ol girl should I replace the plugs ?? She runs great and gets 30 mph still ,but 43000 miles seems like a lot of miles on the plugs.

Plugs are good for quite a bit more than that these days so I doubt it's necessary.

Of course.....it's not that tough of a job and a new set TR55's and MSD's certainly wouldn't hurt.

That is exactly what I'm going to do soon. As soon as a certain forum vendor gets the MSD's in stock... Is there any reason why I shouldn't install the new plugs now and then replace the wire's when I get the new ones?

peace

The only reason is with worn plug wires you risk damaging one when you remove it......happens quite often really. Other than that it's just the extra time of doing the wires twice.....

Personally.....I'd just wait until they're back in stock.

It's most definitely necessary! The original plugs suck! I pulled mine out with only 32k on them because I was getting 7 degrees of knock retard showing up when I had my car dyno tuned. I pulled one of the plugs to check it and the platinum pucks were missing and the gap was .080! Most of the other 7 were the same way! Changing to fresh NGK plugs took away all of the knock retard. So I was losing about 10rhwp right there.

There is absolutely no way the stock plugs would go 100k without the gap being so far out of spec. Even the stock spec of .060 is too much, I run the NGK TR55s at .050 and find they work much better than when they are at .060. There is more low end torque at .050 and better throttle response.

Pull a couple of plugs out and see how the pucks looks (if they are still there). Check the gap too. If they look bad, replace them.

Just did both of these things to our 98 with 70K on the clock. Get them out of there and be sure to use anti sieze on the new ones. They did NOT come out willingly, and the longer you leave them in there, the harder it will be to get them out. All the pucks were missing and gap was close to .080.

You can replace the plugs first, I did that. Just be careful you don't rip one of the wires.

I would be morw worried about them being in there to long and heat fusing. I would not wait more than 5 years
