I own a 2001 with 30,000 miles daily driven Z. It has Michelin Pilots on the wheels. It seems to me my steering feel has become much lighter than I remember with a lot less feel and the Pilots grab the grooves in the roads and seem to pull the car all over. I am happy with the tires since I live in Florida and they are solid during our downpours. Is this light steering feel an age issue, a tire issue or do I have a bigger problem. The light steering makes the turn in to the corners much faster but does not inspire confidence. If anybody has had similar experiences please let me know. Thanks.
I put my pilots on app. 15oo miles ago due to the so. fla. rain too. THe lighter feeling in the steering is due, in my opinion, to the profile of the pilot. The supercars seemed to sit squatter on the road surface and so will have better traction. Also felt like it took more effort to turn the car. This means though that you shouldn't have the pilots pulling u around the road grooves. I have just the opposite. The supercars would yank me off to one side if I just drove over a slight change in the road surface. Not sure what that's about.
It may not be just the tires, but the sensor for the varable effort steering. If it's not working properly it could go to full light or full heavy too.
I use Toyo Proxies on my Z. Handle the same IMO as the GY's, but they last a lot longer and handle a HECK of a lot better in the rain. I am in S. Florida too...when is this rain going to go away!!
Hey, hiyield...Sunday (June 12) 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, a bunch of Corvette Forum people are getting together at the TGI Friday's on 441 and Glades Road in Boca. I don't know if you have seen the posts about it. Parking lot is reserved for Corvettes. Hopefully, the rain will stop by then.
Hey--Saw the info on the Boca gathering. Will try to make it if the rain ever stops--doesnt sound like it will--hurricane anyone?? But now that I have Pilots on I can confidently drive up the 95 in almost any rain-haha
