However, if you are talking about the current Nurburgring track (about 3 Miles with less than 20 turns), then 8 minutes... well, the F1 cars run it in about 1 min. 16 seconds. So, an average speed somewhere around 20 to 25 mph... not so good.
All the best,
dave
ROFLMAO.... David Hill is the Chief Engineer for Chevolet Corvette's ! He is NOT... nor has he ever been...
a TEST DRIVER !!!
Some idiot added the C-6 times to the ring info... showing the C-5 06 lap at 7:56 ( Driven by John Hendricy) aka HeinRocket ,and listing Dave Hill as the driver !!!
Let's try to keep this realistic and not make-up times. 8 minutes or less is super fast and beyond most drivers in the world regardless of the car they are driving. If you have never seen the 'Ring in person or driven it its hard to image how difficult a circuit it really is.
Don't expect the new Z06 to set any records. It probably won't happen. If it does I will be pleasantly surprised.

And I agree with the Captain above. He's been there.
So, if your friend ran "under 8" he's pretty good. REAL GOOD.
Here's the kind of experience it takes to run 7:56 at the 'Ring in a Z06.

A little blurb he was asked to write for GM's "Chev Small Block Blog" website.

Small-Block Symphony
by John Heinricy, Director of High Performance Vehicle Operations
I‘ve been fortunate enough to be able to combine my passion for racing with my GM job. Since I started my racing career in 1984, I’ve run almost 300 races, with eleven Drivers championships to show for it. I’ve competed in thirty-five 24-hour endurance races, with class wins in nine of those. And almost all of these races have been in GM small-block-powered race cars – Corvettes, Camaros, Firebirds…and one lonely Cadillac!
And, he gets "occasional" outings in the third "lonely" factory Cadillac CTS-V.
Last one was at Mid-Ohio, Speedworld Challenge GT on Sat., May 21, 2005
"Cadillac" announced John as a "guest" driver. As a guest, he got a 100 pound weight penalty. Tommy Archer's Viper had won two of the first three races, and Max Papis's Cadillac the other one. John was 0.657 seconds behind the Porsche. I watched on TV. There's some "decent" experience in this group, and the rest of the field.
