i've been haveing a problem with my brakes squealing at about the 5 - 10 mph range. doesnt happen all the time but much more than enough to drive me nuts. i was going to search but the way new products come out i thought i'd ask for advice - maybe a new product is out that will help - yea right - wishfull thinking.
any advice on what to do would be greatly appriciated.
First, I'm not a mechanic or break specialist. My first thought is that your car is not driven much (a garage queen like mine) a thin layer of rust can develop on the rotors and cause a squeel until it's rubbed off. If that's the case, try a couple of relatively hard stops and see if that helps. If that's not the case, see an expert. Brakes are too important to take a risk.... Good luck.
Garage queen – definitely - but also driven to the extent where the rust on the rotors is not an issue. Not the brake sensors either. It only happens right before the car comes to a stop at a traffic light or stop sign. Seems to happen after the car has been running for a little while.
What has probably happened is that the pads have glazed slightly.
Sometimes you can scuff the pads back in with some spirited stops.
Get up on the highway and make some hard braking from a fairly high speed, you be the judge of what that is. Just don't do it in traffic.
A few good hard braking sessions should bed the pads a little better and you should notice the squeeling has been reduced or gone.
In normal driving if you ride or drag the brakes as you make you stops you'll glaze the pads. It's better to apply then later/harder if you want to prevent the squeeling in the future.
I'm sure others will have more expert advice, but hey, this works me.
I have the same problem, and man it is loud.... I took the car in at 1000 miles and made the dealer replace the pads and they sprayed the anti squeal on them. Looked good no squeal for 50 miles. Then right back to the squal. It now has 4500 miles and I think people look at me like im crazy. I would pay anything to get it fixed properly. I know the pads have atleast 95% life and hate to replace them but if I have to I will to get rid of it. Any suggestions.

A little squealing will happen. When the squealing is so loud it hurts your ears when the windows are down is when you have a problem. My father's 01 Z28 recently had the break pads replaced. After they did it, it squeals so loud that it literally hurts my ears when the windows are down.
