Default Shifter Question?

Brand new member-long time reader
I hava a 99M6, I could twist shift ****, so I thought. Today I pulled up on shifter and the shift lever came right out of shifter and boot. I just stuck it right back in. Works. Is this normal with stock shifter? Thanks in advance.

Doesn't seem right, did the ball come off or the stick, the factory shift **** is pinded in place and should not turn, unless its been changed. I've never heard of a stick coming out its a bolted assembly to the trans.

The whole stick just came out. I wouldn't come out of the boot, I guess because of the ball.

Something is not right under that boot, you need to pull the boot up and check it out. Maybe the shifter came apart.

Sounds like your upper shifter shaft assembly with the rubber isolator in the center came loose from the lower shaft. You need to fix this or replace it or it may come loose again when you least expect - or want - it to. You may want to look at replacing it with the revised C6 sshifter or one of the aftermarket shifters such as the Kirban, Ripper or Hurst.
