I had some Z06 rims mounted on my car this week, and after drving my car today I had this message on my car- whats the deal? Did the shop forget to put the sensors on? How will I know? Anyone have a pic of what its supposed to look like, mounted? Thanks
They may have put them on, but not in the correct locations. If that is the case, you will need to retrain them. You can search the forum to find out how to do this.

That message indicates that the brain can't communicate with the pressure sensors - it does not mean they are in the wrong locations.
You can try to retrain the sensors - if they are not there you will not get past the LF wheel, which is the first one trained. You said you had new wheels mounted - did they swap tires from the old wheels to the new ones? If so, and they did not move the sensors they should still be visable in the old wheels.
Another possibllity is that the batteries were marginal, and the new wheels are just different enough to be cauing problems...

Did you just swap wheels and tires from a Z06? If that is what you did, Z06's do not come with sensors. If the shop did put your sensors on, you would not get that message.

Mine comes on everytime I start the car. After I decided to put the chrome "sensor-less" tire plugs in (I had to ditch the flat grey painted sensors) I've gotten it. It sucks, yes, but man you can't have chrome with flat grey. Anyone know where to get sensors with chrome plugs?

Flat gray? Chrome "sensor-less" tire plugs? "Sensor-less" means you have no sensors at all. That's why the TPM receiver keeps sending the message to the DIC. It will continue to do this from now on out, everytime you drive the car, unless you are able to find someone (dealer for example) to hook up a Tech 2 scan tool and turn the system off, or re-install your tire pressure monitors back onto your wheels.

with lonestar of always getting the DIC message. Unfortunately you can not even turn this feature off with a TECH II on your model year (I assume you have a '98). The TPM system is controlled by the BCM. This feature is not "switchable" on the '97-'00 model years. The BCM was updated in '01 to have the TPM system "switchable" so the the same BCM module could be used in the Z06's that were introduced in '01. Z06's do not come stock with pressure sensors.
To the original poster: what happened to your old wheels? If the original sensors were re-mounted, you would not get the error message that you are getting as the sensors should already be trained to your car (although they may not have gone back to their original locations, so re-training would then be required).
Let us know what you find.
PS & EDIT - there are a number of methods of actually mounting the sensors to the rims other than at the valve stem. Many folks with true non-OEM wheels either epoxy or strap the sensors to the rims.
I am having the same problem. But they did not put the sensors back in, they left them on my old wheels, said they would'nt fit the new wheels. If i stap them in or use epoxy does the valve stem need to be outside the wheel? Or do the sensors just need to be inside the wheel and i can use any valve stem?
In case you don't know how, here's the procedure for retraining
1) Turn ignition on
2) Press "Reset" button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages
3) Press and release the "Options" button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank
4) Press and hold the DIC "Reset" button for 3 seconds
5) Press the "Options" button again until TIRE TRAINING message appears
6) Press "Reset" button until the IPC "Learn L Front Tire" message appears in order to begin the programming
7) Install the J41760 Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System Programming Tool (large magnet will do) over the left front valve stem
8) The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPM sensor is programmed (if this takes more than 15 seconds, pull magnet back and try again, it will give you three tries. Then you must start over)
9) When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the following order as directed by the IPC messages: -Learn R Front Tire -Learn R Rear Tire -Learn L Rear Tire Programming can be canceled by turning ignition off, waiting 2 minutes with no sensors being learned, finishing all 4 wheels or through the DIC. If the programming is canceled with less than 4 sensors learned, it will only accept the codes programmed up to that point.
I bought the magnet for $2.99 at my local ACE Hardware. You just have to put it on the side of the falve stem/sensor.

You might want to double check the fitment on your new rims. Many after-market wheels will take the sensors. In answer to your question, no, the valve stem does not need to be outside the wheel if you strap them on. Most folks just remove the valve stem core or cut the stems off.
