Default Brake Dust

It seems I have more brake dust on my wheels since I installed the drilled rotors. Is there any thing you can do about all that dust??

Actually YES! Michelin makes a new brake dust repellant that applies almost like a wax to your wheels. Haven't tried it yet because brake dust for me isnt a problem, but I've heard it works great.

Ceramic pads took care of almost all my brake dust problems.

Are the holes chamfered or radiused? Chamfered edges can "shave" the rotor and create more dust.

Ceramic pads will help, if you can tolerate the decrease in braking efficiency. What dust they do create is lighter in color (reddish-brown vs black).

Search for more threads on this started in the past week or two. The consensus seems to be that its the zinc coating on the new rotots that is causing the excessive dust. Most drivers seemed to say it'll go away in about 1000 miles.

I bought the Delco Durastop performance rotors. They are not zinc coated. I kept my factory pads. I do not have a dust problem but then I'm told the hats will rust so, I clearcoat painted them (10 coats) before installation. That's worked out nicely so far as they remain very shiny silver and continue to look brand new.

I hated the brake dust. Put on ceramic pads and took care of majority of problem. The only thing is when I attempted to stop I drove into the back of a semi. Just kidding. Many on the forum have gone to ceramic pads. If you dont race your vet you will probably notice very little stopping power difference, if any at all.

How long has it been since you installed the rotors? I had the same problem with mine, but after driving it for a few hundred miles, the brake dust has dramatically decreased.

I just saw this stuff at Autozone today. A little skeptical but I wash my ZO6 so often brake dust is not a problem. I would like to know how well it works. Michelin also makes some tire and wheel cleaner????? I think I will stick to my NXT and Meguires!
