Default 402 Stroker LS2.. SLP or SDPC?

God damnit i can't decide. I have a budget of 8K for this project. Both shortblocks are 4K. Who would you go with? What kind of heads would you top this shortblock off with? AFR 225's?

Crate Engine-Assembly, "ZL-402" LS2 Aluminum Short Block (Low Compression)
The ZL402 LS2-based aluminum short block builds on the success of our original ZL402 iron short block. This new package uses the same race- proven internals as its iron block predecessor but features the all- new LS2 block for weight savings of over 100 pounds compared to an LQ4/LQ9-based engine.

Although designed primarily for use in late-model F-Bodies and Corvettes, the aluminum ZL402 also makes a great choice for most late-model GTOs, street rods, muscle cars, and trucks. Best of all, it’s sold outright, without core charges.

You won’t find a higher quality, better value LS2 stroker short block anywhere!

Includes:

* Built entirely from brand-new parts.
* Sold outright, no cores required!
* 402 CID displacement
* GM LS2 aluminum 6.0-liter block (includes block plugs)
* 4.000" Eagle 4340 forged steel crankshaft, balanced to rotating assembly
* 4.000" Ross 2618 forged alloy pistons with -28.50cc dish (includes new rings and full-float pins)
* 9:1 compression ratio (nominal; ultimate compression ratio will depend upon heads and gaskets used)
* 6.125" Eagle H-beam rods
* Includes new, factory-installed cam, rod and main bearings.
* Comes with everything required to retrofit into an LS1-equipped car or truck
* Designed for naturally aspirated use.
* Assembled to OEM tolerances and specifications.
* Capable of supporting over 700 hp.
* Oil pump, camshaft, pans, and plates not included.
* ZL402 badges (pair).

Or

Short block break down
*LS2 aluminum block (4.000 bore)
*Eagle 4.000 stroke crank
*Crower 6.125 I beam LS1 specific rods
*Diamond forged pistons
*Diamond file fit rings
*Clevitte 77 rod and main bearings
***Balanced & assembled***

We will also ship with every short block....
**LS2 parts:
*front cover
*timming set
*cam sensor
*front cover
*front seal & gasket
*valley cover

Everything listed above for $3,995.00

Neither, you have nothing to gain from the LS2 block, and you will lose your knock sensors. I would buy or build a forged stroker LS1.

I generally base my purchasing decisions on proximity to home and quality of web site.

How do you get to 402 CI with an LS1 without wet sleeving?

When i get the doh im probably getting the A&A 383 stage 3 longblock.....I looked at the slp 402 but i feel funny about putting a Ls2 in the C5. If it was plug and play in the C5 i might do it But i think something has to be changed/added to make the slp402 work.......Am i wrong?

Ive looked into this....I plan on eventually going with the Scoggin Dickey set up. They reccomended the AFR 205s and speced out a cam for me....If youd like me to forward the email to you, drop me a line at GPaules03@hotmail.com Basically....you can have the knock sensor holes in the LS2 block retapped so that the LS1 knock sensors will fit. Out side of that, you just need an extension for the cam sensor because its now on the front of the block. I figured just under 10 grand to get the motor together, in the car, with headers, and tuned.

how much power could the LS2 take, I mean being a aluminum engine there has to be some drawbacks? The only thing that realy prevents me from going str8 to a A&A or the like engine is I like the fact that I would save 100 lbs......But I dont think aluminum blocks like turbos do they?

I believe Lingenfelter uses aluminum blocks with their 427 TT.

Are you limiting your self to an LS1 block or is an iron 6.0 liter block, like an LQ4 or an LQ9 an option? Weight difference is about 65 lbs, but the power potential is way up there. 408's are very popular.

You ask why use an LS2 block, then point to the bigger bore iron block. But the LS2 is the aluminum version of the LQ4/LQ9 block, so what's your point?
