Thanks EG. Lord I hate tearing into things. But the site you gave me will help give me courage...maybe.
Looks like the wiring in the door could be a likely candidate for a short caused by water (rain). Could be one possibility. But it seems the interior of the door should be sealed well enough to prevent water from entering.

Just kidding. Taking the door panels is quite straightforward. Once you crack this one, any other interior mod is easy.

Good luck.

Just a thought. Some of those things are controlled by the DIC and the key fob. You might pull out the owner manual and see if reprogramming and making a few changes helps. Just a thought. Zuti

Yup, thought of that too, and tried it to no avail. But thanks for the response, Zuti.

EG, I will have to increase my medication a considerable amount before I tackle the door.

Well, I'm going to chicken out and take the car to the dealer. The problem seems to come and go without any rhyme or reason. So EG, I just whimped out thinking of tearing the door apart. Will let everyone know what happens (that is if I haven't shot myself in the meantime).

Update. Problem fixed. Found a great mechanic at the Pontiac dealership and together we solved the problem...well, he did, I just watched. It was the ignition module that was screwing everything up. It couldn't recognise when the key was in or out, and it was causing other sensors to become "confused". Extended warranty is covering it also.

Thanks to all who chimed in to give their advice and support.
