I have never understood the need for body shops to have a car just sit around until they get the time to get to it.

Give them a week, they work on more than one car at a time. As long as it is done right and the paint matches.

If anything on my car is not done the same day I take may car there, I take my car back. If any business cannot understand the concept of a schedule, they can find another customer.

Really shouldn't take three days to fix that - I'd say two at most.

I had some significant vandalism scratches repaired in both the front and rear fascia, which entailed removal of both pieces, blending the paint in, and clearcoating...the shop had the car for three days. How nice has the weather been out there?

That is about a 2 or 3 day repair.

When you schedule in 6 cars for Monday morning (or whatever day) At some point in the morning, you start the repair. Doing the repair with bodywork, priming, blocking, drying, repriming, guide coating and final sand will take 3'ish hours. The door needs to be taken apart. (handles, belt mouldings, trim panel) and sent to the paint shop.

Depending on how things are going along, it may not get painted that day, it may be prepped and masked with not enough time to shoot the same day. It may be ready but I've spent 3 days tinting paint to make sure it matches. (obviously some colors are harder than others)

Then, depending on what time it gets painted on the second day, it has to be wetsanded and buffed.... and THEN sent back to the bodyshop to be reassembled.

Could easily take 2-3 days.

And for anyone that says they shouldn't schedule 6 cars in the same morning, it's a bodyshop, not a mechanic shop. Unlike a mechanic shop which can look in a book and say "2.2 hours for a waterpump", they have a much better idea how long it takes (barring any problems)

HTH's,

Mark

I agree with EG. The only way I would leave my car at a repair shop over night is if a SUV smashes into my car.

Then I guess you would have to live with a scratch like that... cause there is NO WAY that scratch could be fixed correctly and perfectly in one day...

And as far as EG, are you kidding, he's so ****, there is no way he'd live with it. He had his car torn down for 3 months to do the stereo, he'll live without his car to have it fixed correctly...

HTH's,

I have to agree with Mark on this. . . . Example: I took my 1999 C5 in last Monday for a new MCM Carbon Fiber Heat Extractor Hood to be painted and installed. I was told it should be ready by this past Friday. Well, come Friday I drove by the shop and My Vette & Hood hadn't even be in the shop yet. Yeah, I was a littel , but I've seen the kinda work this place does (Super Good) and they do goof off when it comes to doing the work. Sometimes things just don't go as scheduled. Long story short, my Vette was going in the shop that afternoon and the owner said I could come back on Monday or Tuesday to take some pics of the work in progress and I should have my Vette back by this coming Friday at the latest. So we'll see. . . . maybe I'll have some inprogress pics to post by Tuesday (14 Jun 05)

So, hang in there . . . I feel your pain, believe me

The weather sucks, it has been raining every day since I dropped it off.

Rainy days don't always count. I've experienced a week for a decent job.
