Default Electronics Going Crazy

Seems my '02 Vert is going crazy - driving up to the boat last Saturday, I had the top down, and put the windows up for a short time. Next thing I knew, they would'nt go down! No response from any of the controls/switches on the door, for the windows/locks/mirrors, etc. I had to stop for gas, and had a hard time getting the driver's door unlocked so I could get out of the car. It started and ran fine afterwards, and then everything started to work OK again. I made a quick stop at the liquor store, then things got a little worse - the stereo and dash display quit, then the windows and locks again, then the A/C stopped as well! The car still ran and drove fine, then all my guages started acting all goofy - fuel went to empty, temp ga to hot, etc. The warnings started running across the DIC - reduced power,
check tires, and about everthing else you could think of. I tried a few other things, like the cruise control (which worked) and then everything went back to normal! Any one have any thoughts?

Check your battery. Could be going dead, or it could have leaked down onto the computer that is located directly below it.

That reminds me - I recently had the battery replaced under warranty by the dealer (2 months ago) just before the base warranty expired - think maybe I'll take a look in that area tonight........

I had very same thing on my '99 coupe last year. We had to leave a cruise-in early because we were afraid the car would quit all together on the way home. And we were 75 miles from the house.

Voss Chevrolet did the repair at the tune of $505 for a new body control module. What you described is the very same thing I had back then.
Good luck.

It was the side post batteries that leaked - they stopped using them mid 01, so you should not have that problem. I would suspect that you may have a short in the battery (they can do this at any time in their life), a ground problem, or the other thing to check is water getting into the computer(s) - is your passenger's side floor dry? Sometimes the drain for the AC backs up and can cause all sorts of headaches - pull the foor panel in the passenger's side and make sure tht it is dry in there.

That's a few things to look at - I am sure other's will add more...
