Default Question: Ti exhaust system

Just curious as to the difference between the stock exhaust system on a coupe, and the Ti system on the Z06's. I'm sure their lighter, but are there other differences??? performance gains? How about sound?

I plan to get a cat back system (maybe Borla, Corsa, or GHL) later in the year, so I was curious as to the characteristics of these Z06 exhaust systems. I have seen them sell for substantially less than the other aftermarket systems. Thanks in advance for the info.

Here's a great article on what the benefits of the Z06 Ti exhaust are:

http://corvetteactioncenter.com/spec...06exhaust.html

Mostly, the lightweight savings and the better free flow exhaust (compared to stock) are the main benefits as well as it corrossion proof nature.

Default Z06 Exhaust benefits

The sound is slightly deeper at idle, and comes alive at WOT. The look of the system is a huge improvement over stock, and there's ZERO interior resonance. I found a set locally for $375 off a brand new 04', and could not be happier with it!

I just automatically assumed that I would have to get an aftermarket system to get the results that I'm looking for, but maybe the Ti system will do it. I want that deeper sound, but at the same time I would like to avoid resonance. I'll have to look into this a bit more. Thanks

P.S. Do you think listening to a stock Z06 give me a good idea as to what to expect... or do the car's other characteristics distort how it will actually sound on my coupe.

Try to fined some one who has done the mod and listen for your self, it is the best way. I found that the Z06 exhaust was to tame for me for the effort. After hearing different systems I went with Corsa Pace Car and an X pipe, it has no resonance.

I believe the Z06 has a different Cam and may have a slightly different sound. The best way is to find a coupe with the Z06 system to get an accurate representation. I went with the system mainly for the look, but the added "burble" at idle and WOT sound were a bonus!

I had the Ti exhaust both when my vette was fairly stock and now that I have my kooks lt headers. With a stock system, its only slightly deeper than stock. You still get that motorboat sound from the H-pipe and its not very different at cruising. With a set of headers, its much, much nicer. There's a nice rumble at idle, yet smooth, thanks to the X-pipe and at WOT, you can scare the cars next to you! I would suggest listening to both setups and honestly, if you're gonna keep things fairly stock, I would suggest some GHLs instead. If you're gonna get headers, then get the Z06 Ti's. I would highly recommend them at that point.

I put one on my '02 coupe and loved it. I did not want a system that would generate a lot of interior noise and this system was just right for me.

I now have a '04 Z06 and the LS6 really makes the TI system sing

I'm not really sure why everybody raves over the Ti's...I put a set on my car and it was a waste of time, the exhaust was slightly louder, but with stock manifolds and cat's the exhaust was WAY too quiet.

I did the Z06 exhaust thing too on my C5 vert. Now I want more sound, so I am trying to decide on headers or some GHL's. Sounds like both might be a little too loud. I did find a performance increase with the Z06 exhaust, but the sound isn't that much different than stock. Decisions, decisions!

The TI system is a reasonable and inexpensive approach. I went with a Magnaflow sytem because I liked the sound and looks both. I paid about $800 for the x pipe and cat back package and am very pleased. I have a convertible and love the sound - throaty but not too loud. Once I added the headers, the increased flow made the exhaust louder and obviously improved performance. As far as resonance, I mostly drive top down, so no issue and is the reason I wanted a mild sound. With top up, there is mild resonance below 1500RPM especially under load, so I shift down. Resonance is easy to manage with a 6 speed - less so with an auto.

Thanks for all the great input everyone. From what it appears, the decission will come down to a Ti system w/ headers & X pipe OR a cat back system w/ x pipe.

The Ti has a little better flow and is lighter than the stock system. It also has a little deeper sound to the exhaust note.

The Z06 TIs are a nice system. I had them on my head/cam plus headers setup...it sounded perfect to me. But, if your future plans will put your Vette over 450 rwhp, then you'll be exceeding the flow capacity of the TIs.

In talking to my tuner, he rates the TIs to 450 rwhp, After that, they become inefficient. He also said the Corsas don't flow well over 450rwhp.

If you plan to go over 450 rwhp, you should look into an x-pipe with a Borla, B&B, MagnaFlow, or GHL exhaust system.

same here; exactly the change I was wanting. Others may find it too mellow though.
