True...but the forum is categorized for a reason: to keep things organized.
Lets lighten up a little, we ARE all Vetters here!....
And it was an interesting question....Inevitably comparisons between generations are going to come up, have come up, and will come up again. Nothing wrong with that!
Heck, I think the C6 is an ugly thing, would NEVER buy one, but I AM impressed with the performance of the new Z. Its perfectecly reasonable to talk about the performance and how we C5ers might compare, and how we might adopt new mods to acheive results.
Let's get some meaningful repsonses going to this thread now....I'll be standing by.....or is that 'Lurking'?

Civility is something that is often missing on this forum. The C6 forum is REALLY tough lately. I have a C4 and C5 but read all the forums because I appreciate all Corvettes and would gladly own ANY year; manual, auto, small block ,big block, whatever! I wish more members would choose just not to reply and move on rather than write disparaging replies to posts that don't warrant it. I have seen some posts that I could not resist responding to because the post was so out of line. But a new member might feel reluctant to even post or not post again because they get slammed for their effort. I read this forum for over a year before I ever made a post and I still was'nt sure what I was doing. I had to ask some stupid questions that have probably been asked and answered 10,000 times. A few will simply answer those kind of questions and others will take the oppurtunity to bash and ridicule. By and large this forum and its membership are terrific. Sadly, a few can make it a hostile and unpleasant place to be. That's a shame. Thankyou to all of you members who have made coming here a pleasant, educational and fun (often hysterically funny) place to spend time! FLYZLOW
Removing the 1-2 shift will lower a 0-60 run ny at least a tenth and the 3-4 shift does the same for the quarter mile. This is a goal every hot rodder has longed for. Elminating a shift is good for a full tenth maybe more. It helps the printed numbers we will start seeing when all the car mags start testing the new Z vs XXX. Neat feat.
We don't need the little boy tantrums over where this post was made. It was placed as well as it could have been and the proof of that seems to be that the moderator hasn't moved it.
It's already been answered. The new Z06 has a 7000 rpm redline, and is geared a little taller than the 01-04 Z06, so it hits 60 mph before you have to shift.
First gear up to 60mph is the way they should all be, I hate when my A4 shifts at around 45mph.
Does anyone think the new Z's better numbers may also be due to the paddle shifting??
How much faster can those paddle shifts be then manually shifting gear to gear?
I'd imagine it'd be much like my A4 shifts.
Good thread btw, we need more like these that incorporate the best of both worlds, we're all corvette loving family and should not be so divided all the time.

Paddle shifting - what are you referring too? The new Z has the MN6 6 speed transmission with a normal shifter.
I posted this month ago and some are finally getting it.
No shift to 60 m.p.h.. If you are any good, takes .31 seconds.
Only two shifts for the 1/4 mile at 125-130.
This is why the Ford GT has good reported numbers.
Can you guess how fast my 429 is out the hole with 630 h.p., 100 pounds lighter, 100 wear rating sticky tire, instead of 280 wear rating F1, 7,000 redline, Coil overs. Enough said.
