Default Column Lock Buzz No More

The familiar "buzz" of the motor after turning the key stopped early this week and now so glad had the recall done last fall ('98 A4).

It was really hot the last couple weeks and may have made a difference.

So it makes no difference if the motor fails with pin in or out hitting the plate? Is there a reprogram also so an error code is not set?

If you had the recall done to an A4 you shouldn't be hearing anything. Because they should have installed the Harness K that eliminates the CL completely. Has your column been locking and unlocking since the recall? If it has they probably reprogrammed your BCM like they do for the MN6. With the Harness K they should have installed it and after hearing the CL dis-engage removed the CL from the circuit so that it would never work again. I would think about returning to the dealers and asking if the Harness K was installed. Maybe others here will have some other input too.

That's not true about the recall on an A4 - you will hear the motor, but it doesn't do anything because the lock plate is blocked.

I installed the Harness K in my car and once the CL dis-engaged I removed it's harness from the Harness K and now the Harness K does the total simulation of the CL in circuit. If the Harness K is in fact installed on your car remove the CL from it. Once the CL is unlocked and you will see that it is not required to be in the circuit once the Harness K is installed.

I hear it but it is going dead ---on and off sometimes. Why no codes? My wheel is free when parked so I know I have the plate in.

I just had my steering wheel lock on me today which caused me to hit a curb. I took my 98' vette in over a week ago to have the steering lock problem fix, but it was not fix. I could not even get the dealership that did the so call work to pay for my car to be towed to them I had to take to another dealer which would not touch it because of what happened to me today. GM Chevy would not fork out the cash to tow either. I now have my vette stting in my drive way until GM Chevy calls me back in two business day to tell me what they are going to do. You would think that they would want to correct this problem ASAP. I could have crashed on the highway... Does anyone know if the steering lock should have been removed completly? I have an auto.

Plate will be put in with reprogram. Motor will still work. Mine has totally failed now. Wheel will be free to turn.
