...put in a Magnaflow X pipe I got used from member Steve Doten, aka Connecticuit. Arrived in excellent condition, looked brand new, thanks Steve- great seller. The pipe is beautiful, very well constructed. Anyway, took some wrestling to get the slip joints to fit on, but once I got it on, I started the car and wow. The idle has smoothed ten fold, definately gave the results I was looking for, I should mention my "axle back" consists of OEM mufflers I cut open, then emptied the guts out of, then welded back together. In my opinion it sounds almost as good as the expensive aftermarket mufflers. There is no resonance, and it feels like it opened up some throttle response slightly. Before, the car was very motorboaty at idle before and popped on deceleration. But now, the idle sounds smooth and the gurgling has been reduced by probaby 80%,
Its one of those 'why the heck didnt I do this before' mod. I did this proiject mainly to smooth out the idle but because before the first night I had my car I broke the OEM flange and it was welded back on crooked. Stayed like this for almost 2 years. Ive kept my car for the most part stock, as I want to keep it reliable and comfortable, but if it adds to the refinement or funcationality of the car then Im all about it. Im now considering a Vararam and then possibly Kooks or LG long tube headers!
I will even go on a limb to say that the X pipe would smooth out the idle sound of even a stock mufflered car. Darn GM for using that H crossover pipe!
