From what I've read, if you hit 200 mph, the Hud will flash twice (I think 00). The top speed of the C5 is 176 mph with 2.73 gears if I'm not mistaken. You've got to make alot more horsepower than stock while keeping things light to make it to 200 mph.
what is the top speed of a stock 2003 vette? also i have been told that if you break the 200 mph mark do the heads up display changes is this correct?
I think the top speed is under 182mph (top of 5th gear) but due to drag you will not hit that. I have hit 173mph but will never try that agian. I dont think the heads up will display it correctly just put it in kmph and find out. I've had the needle go past 200 in kmph. but I cant remember if hud displayed it correctly.
If you look at the hud with sunlight hitting it directly from in front, you can see all of the display elements. In the "hundreds" position of the speedometer, it only has the led's to create a "1", not a "2", so it cannot display 200 or over correctly.
(The things you notice when you're stuck in a traffic jam! )

So what happens to the HUD display in Germany on the Autobahn where the speedometer reads 300 Kilometers? Does the HUD quit working at 200 KPH?
I suppose one could test this by switching the gauges to metric and going 201 KPH or 125 MPH and see what happens.
At 200, the HUD will not display numbers, but rather display "You Da Man".
I went over 200mph once and the DIC scrolled a message saying,....... "welcome aboard and thank you for flying the friendly skies, you are now free to move about the cabin"???? I got confused by this though.....

The lingenfelter twin turbo C5 has made it to a clocked speed of 230 mph. That's where I read about the flashing 00's.
And the funny thing about that car was that they had to ADD a bunch of weight to the car just to keep it from going airborn. I forget how much it was, but they added hundreds of pounds in very creative ways just to keep it on the ground.
I was told this by one of the guys that built that car so I know its a fact.
I from Germany, and have a Vette. Our HUD goes up to 299 but not higher. If you reach that speed, you have to switch to MPH and then it could go up to 299MPH .
I have a 2002 A4 with a Vararm, B&B Route 66,a TR 224 cam and 3.15 Gears.
Two weeks ago I hit 192MPH on our Autobahn, but I still was accelerating. I swear I could have seen 200MPH.
But the tach of euro models have about 5% deviation every 100kph (about 60mph). So I was driving about 182 real MPH.
