Not too much of a downside at all. Your accessories will probably live a longer life by a small percentage. You may have problems with the alternator power produced though. You might see more headlight dimming than usual at idle-if you call that a problem. It happens on my stock pulley car anyway. GET IT! It will be a good mod.

I was supposed to get it when LPE did my 485 hp headers/cam package in May. The underpulley was on back-order so I couldn't get it. I was told @ LPE that it adds about 5 extra rwhp because less power is "robbed" from the engine turning the belts in the stock setup. It was about a $300 extra. My engine did 427 rwhp on the dyno so I guess I'll just have to live w/o those extra 5.

So Vamp, what did LPE charge you for the entire package w/o the underdrive pulley (I'm assuming they did all the work)? PM me if you prefer.

I paid about $8500 plus transportation costs. But I put my deposit down in April and there was a slight price increase after that (about $600??). Check LPE's website. It is called the "top end" set up for 485/500 hp.

Should have given me the loot and I could have done it for 1/2 the cost.

RE: Underdrive pulley. $275-$300 for a few horses. I think that money is better spent with something that will give you a better bang for the buck.

I'm doing my cam in 2 weeks and I'm not doing the UD pulley.

Pulley makes practical sense because you have to pull the stock pulley to get the cam cover off. I just don't want to waste $300 on something that will net me minimal rear wheel gain.

Plus you have to buy a new UD bolt and new UD belts as well - serpentine and A/C = more loot.

$300 can get me 2 sets of chromemoly pushrods (32), for example, a set of roller lifters (16) or a downpayment on a Tigershark front fascia.

It just depends on what you want to spend your money on.

Correct. The UD pulley is entirely optional.

Like I said, it just makes good practical sense to change it while you're in there doing your cam because to do it otherwise is cost prohibitive.

The Tigershark site has shut down and is going out of business.

But Tigershark is still for sale at other vendors.

you can buy the U.D. pulley with an overdriven alt pulley if you are worried about your voltage dropping..

I am going to install one because I have heard about the stock pulley spinning off after being re-installed.

If you are going to have to buy another stocker it makes more sense to put that $ towards an aftermarket replacement that doesn't wobble.

Good luck whatever you decide....

UD pulley decreases the HP drain caused by underhood accessories. Labor to just put the pulley on is prohibitive for the few poines gained, so the best time to do it is during a cam install. Every little bit helps. It's all cumulative.

It's your car, do what you want.
