Default Kooks long tube installation

Can I install a set of Kooks LT headers in my '97 coupe without dropping the engine or can they be squeezed in from the bottom with the car on a lift? I would rather not pay to have these installed if I buy them, but if the engine must come down, I have no choice.

From what I understand with talking to Chris at ECS, you do not need to drop the engine or tear it apart. Maybe you could shoot him an email and he'll be kind enough to give you a couple of suggestions.

The most you will have to do is loosen the 2 motormount bolts underneath the car down to the last few threads and place a hydraulic jack under the oil pan using a block of wood to keep from dinging it, and raise the engine a couple inches or so to get them in.

There is much written on this. When you are ready for the install, post back. There are other links in addition to the one below.

KOOKS go in from the top. I installed my own with no trouble.

This thread has plenty of pictures but be sure to look at both pages of this thread

This one shows the driver's side. You only need to remove the steering linkage at the bottom.

I just put Kooks in my car this past weekend. Just unbolt the engine mounts and jack up the engine one side at a time. The headers go in from the top. You will need to remove the steering shaft, but its easy to do. If its a tight fit on the drivers side. Take a 1"x3" piece of wood and use it as a pry bar to get just a little more movement from the engine by wedging it between the alternator mount and frame... Good luck...

Ps. the passenger side valve cover can stay on. The driver side has to come off...
