Just put the license plates for Texas on and the front plate really looks like crap. Somewhere I saw a clear cover that fills over the plate that I think fills up the front. Does anybody know where I can order one? Had to do it, can't afford any tickets!

Best price I found, Corvette Central. Also used stainless steel screws when putting back on, but the black screws look good. Everyone compliments. MO-two plate state.

The clear cover is also illegal in TX. You can't put ANYTHING over either the front or rear plate. Technically even the plate surrounds you see everywhere are illegal if they cover up even a tiny bit of the wording on the plate. The reason? To stop the bad guys from putting those distorting covers over the plates to stop cameras from getting a clear shot. Easier to outlaw EVERYTHING than write a law to cover just the bad things.
The smoothie surround is legal, however. Either the one from GM or the color matched ones.
BTW I've had my plate on for over a year and eventually you get used to seeing it.

However,
I put Red Racer in a People's Choice Show 'n Shine last Sunday (took 2nd place) and switched my front plate for the Corvette front plug. Man, I was loving the way it looked. Drove home with it, left it on the car overnight, and ALMOST decided what the hey, I'll just keep it on there. At the last minute, I decided to put the front plate back on 'cause I don't want to contribute anymore to the local police dept. as I've had to already.
Paint the front surround body color and learn to live with it.
Does anyone have a picture of what the front Smoothie license plate cover looks like? I seen them on Ekler's web site $74.95 but there is no picture available.

I have a torch red Z06 in Texas, and have gotten where I like the look of the factory black trim around the front plate.
I have my front plate mounted, but run with the cover on with velcro. I have not been stopped yet (only a matter of time). I have been thinking of one the Kewl surrounds. As much as I like the cover, at least the surroud would show my special plates on front.

Anybody know what the fine is for a clear cover versus no front plate?
I figure a plate with a clear cover is better than no plate at all from a legal standpoint.

IFAIK the fine is the same. Up to $200. But then I'm not a LEO so I may have the wrong info. You would have to get a really #^$%y cop to even write you up for it, I bet. But technically it is illegal. Another thing that may make a difference to you is how offen you drive through small town TX. I do that a LOT and some of those towns look for any way to raise a little cash. If you are mostly in big cities shouldn't be a problem.

That is a lot of money for something that you can get from the dealer for $15 and then paint for yourself.
