hey...... im reading some things here about recharging the ac. i was always under the impression that when your ac needs recharging that you have run out of freon and that would be due to a leak in the system. and that would have to be addressed before recharging. i thought freon stays in the system indefinitely. is there something that makes the condeser blow colder air ?

You are correct but if it is a small leak some additional r-134 will
often have you set for another year or two.
I've had two summers in a row adding freon. Am looking for a place to check out AC system, but would like to add freon myself if possible to pput a band aid on it and be comfortable in Southern Cal. Anyone who knows how to do this, would love to hear from you!

Reason: speklling
AC-service is recommended every third year by most manufacturers. This is because you loose pressure in time and it also builds up some moisture in the system. Don't just refill with more R-134, but take a full service with vacuuming the entire system wich both checks for leaks and remove moisture from the system. The machines in a workshop do all this automatically(at least our's)
The system will not loose refrigerant unless there is a leak. It should not have any moisture in it unless someone has fooled with it using poor service technics. If the sytem is low it does need to be evacuated into a vacuum and recharged by weight. If its low there should be a reason as refrigerant will not wear out.
If there is more than let's say 5 years since you had service on your ac i will almost guarantee you will get a more effective ac after one(service).
But i have read somewhere that you americans say: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
BTW rubber is not 100% air tight! Sometimes 99,9, but never 100%
