Default Any experiences with a hypertech power programer?

A buddy of mine is trying to sell me his hypertech power programer he had for his 98 trans am for $300. I dont know much about these, but I know i dont have much tuning options due to the pcm in my 97'. So far my only mods are intake and exhaust, what would be the best route to go? Thanks guys!

Those are very model/year specific. I dont think you can use one that was sold for a Trans Am on a Corvette, I may be wrong. I dont think they are worth the price.

I actually do have personal experience with them, however not on my Vette. Used it on my 96 Impala SS when I changed my gears. Also used it to firm up my shifts a little.

Make sure if you buy one that the previous owner returns his vehicle to the stock settings before he sells it to you as you can not use it to tune more then one vehicle at a time.

I had one that I used on my previous car which was a 98 Transam. Bought it off of Ebay for 200 bucks. I had my car dynoed with it and with the programming I only gained 3 rwhp with it and 4 lbs of torque. That was with the 160 t stat also. The only good use from them things is if you have a A4. With an A4 you can make the PCM shift at a higher rpm which might improve et times. Also it increases line pressure which isnt good for the tranny if you set it for 100% shift firmness. One good thing is if you want to go too a 390 or 373 gear or even a wider tire, you can recalibrate your speedometer so it matches your rpm and mph. 300 bucks is too much for that IMO. Get LS1 edit, you will pick up an honest 10rwhp or more from that. Oh and also your friends HPP3 will not work with your 97 because each year and model is different from the other.

One and it was all bad, loaded the perfermance enhancement program and dyno'ed my old vette. She lost close to 15 rwhp. We pulled the program out and got the hp back. Serveral months latter I did 3.73s and we tryed to recalibrate the speedometer, the remnants of the Hypertech program locked us out. Had to completely reflash the on board computer to get things straightened out.

, no more Hypertech for me

got one for my 99 when I first got the car. NO good if you make the slightest mods ( air intake 0 to your car you'll start trowing codes. Save your money. If you still want one look on E-bay everyone who get's one ends up there sooner or later.
