Paid $30k for mine last Sept (04) from a dealership in CT
2001 Coupe with just about every option except Z-51 suspension. 22,000 miles on the clock, 1 owner, obviously babied and in pristine condition (no mods)

Low $30's sound high to me for a 2001.

Oh Man, for a second there I thought you were saying that you paid 30K for a 2004 last September!
I thought the magnetic select ride came out in 2003. It was standard on the 50th coupe, but was an option for the other models. At least that was the way it was when I ordered my 2003 and followed it down the line in Bowling Green, KY.
thanks for all of your help so far. i'm learning more and more about the c5 as i read the responses from you corvette folks. as far as the suspension i noticed a button on the center console ,could thet be selective real time damping? or is the z51 option controlled by a button on the console? sorry for the questions but i appreciate the help...
the dealer is asking 31.440.00 i'm sure there is room for negotiating..
thanks for all of your advice so far and hopefully more to come.
The F45 Selective Real Time Damping System was an available option for model year 2001. If the car is so equipped, you will see a dial type selection switch toward the passenger side of the center console to switch between the various suspension modes. The F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control did not come available until model year 2003 and it replaced the F45 suspension. There are no buttons for the Z51 Performance Handling Package which consists of the FE3 Sport Suspension and a power steering cooler. Also, toward the driver's side of the center console, there is a push button to turn on/off Traction Control/Active Handling and to enable the Competion Mode. (Active Handling became a standard feature in model year 2001.) You can see options that were available for the 2001 model year at the following link: 2001 Corvette Production and Performance.
it wouldn't hurt if either you ran a carfax ($17.95) or asked the dealer to run the carfax for you. it'll show a lot about the history of the vehicle. fwiw, the price sounds a little high. mileage however sounds quite favorable. bub

Welcome to the forum Richard - I agree low 30's is high for an '01, especially a coupe. A convertible should be mid to high 20's, and they start out anywhere from about $5K - $6K more new than a coupe. If this car is perfect, mid $20's would be a fair price.
I waited to get my dream car until I was almost 50, and wanted one since I was a kid - so I understand your excitement. The secret to finding the right car is to research everything. Try to learn as much as you can about these cars, then before you make the decision to jump in, check the potential purchase thoroughly. Car-Fax, independent inspections and maybe someone who is an owner familiar with Vettes should look and give you an honest objective opinion.
I didn't note what part of the country you live in - but I'm sure that one of our fine Forum members would be happy to take a look.
Also - CF member Sponge Vette has been known to run a VIN or two through the GM computer for service and origination history.

Just get the VIN, request a carfax in the C5 for sale section, someone will get it for you at no cost.
Price probably does have room for negotiation, as suggested have it checked out by a mechanic that is vette knowledgeable or another forum member local to you could probably help out, either with an inspection or to suggest a good mechanic.
52 is a good age, this is my second vette, first was a 69 back in the 70's, always loved them and wanted another, now I'm also 52 and have fulfill that dream.
Try to figure out what mods it has (if any). Look for additional gauges, aftermarket intake, headers, etc. Depending on where you are and how it's equipped, mid to high 20's would be about the right price. Does it have both tops? What's a grand or 2 if this is a great car and the one you want?
price seems high. a coworker just bought a 00 with the options and milage you mention from private owner for $ 24,500
I bought a wonderful rare color Dark Bowling Green '00 Coupe with both tops, MN6, sub, etc.. with 39,500 miles for $24,000 last month.
When I was looking, I saw an '02 at the dealership that was about $32,000, so it does sound a bit high.
Also, with the '01 model, there is a chance that it could have an issue with burning oil above 3k RPMs. It is supposed to be possible with the '00 year as well, but it seems much less frequent. Does a compression test tell you if the car may be susceptible?
thanks everybody for all your comments and warnings . I'm in the central virginia area and after researsch the cars in this area are high.I recently got an autotrader from the atlanta ga area, the prices are a couple of thousand less in Atlanta than here.I,m still looking here and there.Fortunately i do not have to rush and i have time to look and compare....
thanks for all your help
