Default Please comment on the C6 Shifter

For those of you who installed the C6 shifter, please let me know what you thought of it. I'm contemplating buying one since Fred beans has a nice sale on them.

I currently have the stock shifter cut down 5/8".

Please post comments on why you voted the way you did.

See my previous post last week: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...r&forum_id=103

The throw is only a little shorter, but what I really like is the feel of the ****. It feels like what the factory shifter should have. I've only had the car 4 weeks but feel this was a worthwhile mod along with the CAGS jumper.

Good look with your installation esp the dreaded key (pin).

I had a B&M Ripper in but the effort was too high when an old wrist injury acted up. Installed the C6 which has a much lighter effort. I really liked the Ripper but the C6 is probably better overall for me.

I'm waiting for someone to do it in my area so I can see and feel what teh C6 shifter is like in a C5. I Know the profile is even lower than the hurst shifter. Its the low profile that attracts me.

The throw on the stock shifter is just too long.

The shorter C6 shifter plus the angle of the shifter makes it much easier to shift gears than the stock one.

The installation is also easy. Take out the old and put in the new (ok a bit more complicated than that, but no much).

Not as low if you do this mod to the stock **** (See this thread/pic in Post #6 http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1098283 ). The Hurst is lower than the stock shifter but after doing this mod It will lower the **** another 3/4" maybe. Very comfortable plus solid shifts.

I cut the shaft down quite a bit, cut it all the way down to near the FAT Part of the shaft. In fact, there are no more threads left on the shaft and I have a universal *** so it rights over. But its still too high!!!.

I got lucky and found a forum member with a C-6 that had changed to an aftermarket shifter. Sent the Money Order out to him today. Hope to get the new shifter in soon!

The stock shifter sucks. I tried a Hurst and couldn't warm up to it. The C6 is fine for me, and is especially nice in heavier traffic, like anywhere in the DC Metro corridor. Shifts are shorter and seem smoother. I won't go back.

It's so much better than that awful stock **** -- a square shifter?? C'mon! Wish it was a little shorter though...

IMHO any shifter change should be accompanied by changing both the transmission and differential fluids to synthetic if you haven't already done so.

Same here. The hurst is too too tight with not much room for error. And Ripper is even worse.

I could be wrong but I believe tranny and diff fluids are synthetic from factory.

Doesn't B&M have a new style/part number for their shifter?

I just ordered the C6 shifter. I'm having 21MC install the shifter since they are already working on my car.

Thanks for the replies.
