Does this 99 C5 belong to anyone on the forum? Quick story: at around 2 am I drove up on it wrecked and abondoned. The registration came back to someone in Venice. At around 3 am my dispatch tells me the owner just reported it stolen by a small hispanic female. The funny thing is the driver seat was all the way back and the registered owner is listed as 6'2" on his license. See if you can figure this one out. Oh yeah I forgot to mention the beer left in the car.

Sounds to me like someone panicked I'd sure as heck take the beer with me if I crashed the car No sense leaving that behind. Was it opened, or was there some missing?
How long did you say you were in law enforcement? It's very obvious. The driver was drunk, wrecked his car, and fled the scene not to get arrested. He/she sobers up in a few hours and then reports the car stolen so the insurance will pick up the tab for the repairs. When I worked auto theft we had it happen all of the time. Unfortunitely, sometimes they would injury or even kill someone and do the exact same thing to avoid going to jail.

Wonder how the owner knew it was a small hispanic female that took the car? If he saw it happen and waited at least an hour to report it (car was seen at 2 am, not reported until 3 am), sure doesn't look good for his story.

Have you relayed your thoughts to the Special Investigations Unit of the insurance company? They usually have the resources and inclination to check into this further. If you need info on how to contact them, PM me for assistance.
