I just finished my installation of the AVIC n2 but I can't seem to get rid of that annoying warning message about the parking brake not being connected properly. The HU's hardware diagnostics screen displays its status correctly but the HU always seems to popup that fricken warning message when it's powered up.
Questions: I have the parking brake wire grounded from the HU to the chassis - how long does it take the system to initialize itself to sense the correct connection statuses? I've only driven it 5 miles so far.
I spliced the yellow illumination wire off of the HVAC control unit but the HU doesn't illuminate when I open the doors...shouldn't the HU light up or am I assuming the wrong thing? FYI - The diagnostics screen does display the correct status of the illumination state.
I have the N1 so I can't help you with your situations. Never got that when I grounded my wire. I think that is one of the changes between the N1 and N2 that Pioneer did. Sorry But they are a great unit. I enjoy mine.
The N2 isn't the same as the N1, you can't just ground the wire and watch video or use the navi. It actually has a gyroscope type of thing that knows when the car is moving. If you want video you have to pipe it into the backup camera instead. Check the Audio section of the site for a writeup on how to do it.
Thanks for the response but my intention is not to watch video but just to get that annoying message. Any more input from other members would be appreciated.

Actually, the N1 is exactly the same as the N2 (hardware wise). The only difference is the software. It's the software that determines when the vehicle is in motion, and thus, locks out the ability to play videos. For those that have N1s, the software upgrade is CNDV-50MTP, it retails for $275. (I've seen it for as low as $225.). It's my understanding that once you upgrade your software, you can't go back (i.e. you can't undo the upgrade).
Jim,
I have an N1, so I'm not that familiar with the N2 displays. It's my understanding that running the parking brake wire to ground on the N2 does not do anything (I maybe wrong). Not sure what you are talking about with regard to warning message at bootup. If it is the standard warning message, there is probably nothing you can do. The standard message that I am talking about is the message that appears after the Pioneer screen display. You have to touch the OK button on the screen to continue the bootup (yes, it's annoying to do this everytime). I've also run my lighting wire into the dash lighting, and it doesn't appear to do anything (my dianostics page also shows that everything is hooked up properly). I've played around with burning my own custom DVDs, in hopes of replacing the Pioneer display screen and the warning message screen, but I've been unsuccessful with this. The only thing that I could do was make a "disk copy". So I keep the backup copies in my car, and the originals are stored in a safe place in my home.
JTS97z28 - do you see a caution message "the parking brake connection may not be connected properly..."? Did you ground your wire or did you splice the pink wire off near the handbrake?
