Some....Some....let me repeat...some 01's have an oil consumption issue that requires replacing the lower 2 piston rings. I have an 01 Z and does not have this issue. Mine burns 1 qt per 3000 miles (within acceptable limits, per GM). 01's with this issue burn around 1 qt per 800 miles. Other issues:
1. Column Lock Issue (All C5's)
2. Rear End Seal (don't remember what years, my 01 does not have a problem)
The 01's have a little less hp, but there are also less of us out there. I love my 01.

Happy Hunting!

The oil problem is well documented on the forum, but a good resource on the topic is http://corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/q...n.php?qstId=71. It has all the info on the TSB.

I think I've had every common defect and a couple uncommon ones. The common ones include a wacky fuel gage that required replacing the sending unit or fuel pump or some such (also a very searchable problem.) I had the loose/rocking power seat (expensive), the climate control center went dark, the "Service active handling" issue, and the popular oil problem.

I absolutely love the car and do not consider it a lemon, but I'm very happy I bought the extended GMPP. I'd love to know the answer, but I'd bet 500 lbs of the car is insulated copper wire. Its insanely computerized, electrified, sensored, and monitored, and I have found those components prone to failure. It makes my C4 look medieval, and my 1970 Olds stone age.

The oil situation sounds more frightening than it is. If you baby the car it shouldn't burn oil, and if you install a catch can you can resolve the PCV portion of the problem. You just have to remember to check the oil when you gas up, and what self respecting vette owner wouldn't go the extra mile to baby their ride?

Its certainly hard to cost justify a ring job when you compare the cost of re-ringing to a dozen cases of Mobil1. Mr Goodwrench should also be able to pull the car's service record and tell you if any of these problems have been addressed.

I don't understand why people post crap like this... If you don't want to post something helpfull, don't post at all... I thought that part of the Corvette Forum was interacting with fellow corvette enthusiasts....

I'm pretty well sure that every corvette question in the history of man kind was asked and answered here at one point or another... so therefore it is a waste of time for anyone to post solely for that reason... But thats not the only reason.. When I sit down on this forum, I (being quite a big loser) enjoy interacting with other corvette owners... I like when people react and respond to my specific question... I can do a search on the internet and on this forum all day long, and probably come up with any answer... but I don't because of the above reason.

When people just post comments in the threads... like "These wheels rock!" why is it that people like you don't say....

"This has been posted before, we have all seen those wheels in previous posts, your car is no different, just use the search engine and you can see the other wheels without wasting our time"

Because I'm sure when someone posts "look at my new MY corvette"

We have ALL seen an IDENTICAL car... but that is not the point... we all enjoy talking to each other about corvettes.. that is what this forum is for... and it really peves me that people post crap like

etc....

because EVERY single post is Dupe... EVERY SINGLE ONE!!

I don't come on here solely for straight information on a topic... and if you don't like to talk to other people, and the sole purpose of your visit to CV.com is to get the info, and leave... fine, you do that, but don't **** on people that want to interact...

this is going in General... stand by...

Maybe I shouldn't have been so blunt about it, I apologize, so calm down brother.

But the reason is simple, this particular question has been asked more than most. And I'd rather someone searched for themselves than take up forum bandwidth, because we all know how things slow down here when there are technical problems with the server.

Thanks to you guys who have answerd my question. Actually, tomorrow I will take a close look to an z06 2001 which is for sale and I apreciate that you share your experiance and knowledge. I have had Corvettes for the last 30 years, I felt that the z06 probably are one of the best Vettes ever built. I live in Sweden and z06 are rare here.

Big Problem with the z06's-the rear tires are subject to premature wear.

So go and donate a few G's to the "bandwidth fund."

I have an 01 Z and have had no issues except for the premature tire wear thing.

I bought my '01 Z06 brand spanking new. I picked it up from the NCM on June 1, 2001. It was love at first sight. Starting it for the first time, right there in the NCM, was an awesome experience. From my first drive, from back of NCM to front of NCM, I got my first really big, ear to ear, smile. In the four years since, my bullet and I have weathered a few minor maintenance issues. None came close to dampening the pride of ownership that shows in my big silly "I have a Corvette" grin.

My bullet doesn't have a problem with oil consumption or differential leakage. I did have a column lock incident. I have always used a 93 Octane, low sulfer content, fuel and never allow the tanks to go below 1/2 full. I have not had a problem with the fuel gauge.

I love my bullet, and, when I bring the heat, it is impressive. I can't be the highly modified Viper RT10 running 2-Stage Nitrous (over 1,000 rwhp when spraying). There are a lot of other power-cars out there that can beat me in a straight line. In addition, there are a lot of cars out there that can beat me in a SOLO II event or a run on a road course. It doesn't matter.

For the money I spent, nothing comes close to the value my Corvette Z06 has given and continues to reliably give me.

In the end, there can be only one, and the one is Corvette Z06... the Legend Lives!

I just bought an 01 z about 2 months ago. I don't have a severe oil comsumption loss. I haven't driven a 02+ Z so i am not sure of the performance difference. But I love mine

There is just something about that 405 hp emblem that makes the 2002 and up special. I know its only an additional 20 hp over the 01 but it still is very kool to be over the 400 mark in hp. A good driver in a 01 can still beat a bad driver in a 02 or up...

I don't think you realize that additional database searches have a much greater effect on server load than having one additional thread.
