I have a 2003 Z06 with 3500 miles. I just noticed spots on the garage floor after a 200 mile highway drive. The leak was on the left side with spots on the left side of the exhaust as well. It appeared to be dripping from the bottom left bolt of the left side differential cover. I wiped it off and took it for a short drive in town and it did not leak afterward.
If it only leaks after highway driving, would it be coming from the overflow? I do not want to take it to the dealer for repair unless absolutely necessary.
If anyone else has experienced leaking after highway driving only?
Same thing happened to me on my 2003, they overfill them at the factory and it comes out the vent on top when it get very hot. Just clean it up and remove the filler plug and remove a little of the fluid.( I used a suction gun )
When I changed the fluid in mine I only filled it to 1/4 inch BELOW the fill plug and I haven't had a problem again with it.
It is a very common problem and most people think it is a leaking seal. ( I did at first )
Same thing happened to my '03.Brand new, started at around 1000mi.fluid on garage floor.I took it in every time I noticed,if they would'nt fix it it would atleast be documented. They initially said overflow it was not.I eventually showed them documentation of numerous TSB's detailing this exact problem. They eventually replaced the diff. seals on 7/6/04 and there has'nt been a problem since.
I just had the O ring on my Diff replaced as well. it is pretty common, and really an easy fix. My was replaced for free, and my car is out of Warranty.
Very common problem with diff seal. I have had this occur with a 1999 c5, 2001 Z06 and 2002 Z06. Should be warranty item. Get it done under warranty as it is a $500-600 out of warranty.
I have small spots that appear on floor at what I thought was random times. I will have to pay more attention to how I was driving before each time.
I have this same thing happend to me and mine is a 2001 automatic. It only happens after driving on the highway for some time. When I return, I always see a small puddle on the garage floor. Did you find the fix to yours?
