Would you mind posting pics of your creations? I'm most interested in the amp racks and subs, awww hell, post all! Couldn't find many pics at all searching the whole web or the forum. Thanks!
I'm actually *really* interested in seeing this thread, because I'm about to tackle this project myself.
My thoughts were that I would buy a stealth box for a single 12" sub in the main cargo compartment in the trunk. I can probably fit a CD changer and a capacitator kit in the left cargo compartment. I'm pretty sure the amp I want to buy will fit in the right cargo compartment.
The stock Bose system and stock deck will go as well. I'm still investigating what components I want for everything (as well as what will fit in the trunk compartments), but I would love to see what everyone else has done.
My last system was sooo much easier what I had all the room I could ever need in my Explorer!
I don't have pix of mine, and it's not fancy. I just added a 10" Alpine sub in a box into the center rear storage compartment. Not sure who did the enclosure. I bought it used from a former member here on the Forum. It sits under the original compartment cover. It's wired to an Alpine amp that is mounted vertically on the inside rear wall (sort of opposite the rear license plate). The sound is much improved and I'm so glad I did it. I got no bass before, especially with the top off and windows down. I don't want boom boom, just overall good sound and I've got it.
I changed out everything. Went with an all Kenwood system. It sounds great. 1000 watts driving the 10" Kenwood Excelan 2ohm duel voice coil corbon fiber Sub in a Subthump stealth box. 800 watts driving the front Kenwood Excelan componet speakers and rear Kenwood Excelan coaxels. 200 watts to each. I also have the XM commander hardwired to the head unit & mounted in the ashtray area. Custom amp rack & used the rear compartment cover to mount an oversized speaker grill to protect the sub. The sound is amazing!
Great job pyro! I like what you did with the grill cover. Did you just cut a hole in the stock compartment cover? Looks reall clean. Nice!
Thanks
Yea, I just cut the metal supports from the bottom of the compartment cover & centered the hole over the 10" sub. The sub has a large metal support ring and a long throw, so I used a steel 15" grill to protect it and not impead its throw.
I love it! So clean and can hit HARD when you want it. The Subthump stealth box is great.
Thanks again.
