My '04 has the fuel gauge gremlin. Used the techron fix last year and it seemed to work. As soon a the whether got warm the problem resurfaced and nothing will fix it.
Anyways, I took it to the dealer and they will replace the sensor in the tank, but say I have to leave the car for over a week. Does that sound right?
I had them put the fix in the system and told them I'll bring it back in January and they can have it for a month if they want. Dealer had no problem with that.
I only had my 04 for 2 days and the fuel guage went to empty from a full tank several times. I took it into the dealer and they had to take out the fuels tanks to replace the fuel modules. I waited three days for them to get the parts. Then they broke my fuel lines taking out tanks. Waited another week to get the new fuel lines. Then the mechanic chipped the bottom of my door on the rack. went to thier body shop for another 4 days. All total they had my car for over 2 weeks. Since they replaced the fuel modules I have had no problems for 3000 miles. They said I had the new modules from the factory but could not understand why they went bad. Lots of luck with yours.

A WEEK!!!! Damn dude!!!!!!!! That's insane...I wouldn't trust any dealership with my car for a week let alone a month.
Do this instead. It's obvious they either dont have the part in stock and/or can't get to it right away, so make an appointment to drop it off when they have the time and the part. This way you're only sacraficing the car for half a day. Make sure to take pics of your car inside and out before you drop it off!
I use Techron every 3000 miles or with each oil change! Only use Chevron Premium too. So far I have no more problems!
I tested out another brand of gas and it was Silver... not premium... Yep, the gauge went nuts and then another bottle of Techron fixed it. Its weird but it seems to work. I don't think Chevy wants to own up to the problems and the dealerships are like the blind leading the blind.
they have to remove the tanks and pull the unit .. a week isn't bad .. you can cut that time into days or day if they reorder the parts .. and make sure they order the newer style system . .you're 04 has the same system as my 03 the new c6 design.
just make sure they replace both sending units .. the intank unit (one big piece .. like $700) and out of tank sender also they might do a reprogram on it aswell.

techron was one of the ones it didn't like .. i think i got better / equal gas mileage out of it but generally i only use Shell V-Power.
anybody else notice that? some gases you get better gas mileage out of? filled up once at a BP (not my usual place) the tank seemed to have dropped MUCH faster than normal.

Never really given Shell any chance, because there just isn't one near by. I've always used Diamond Shamrock 93 octane. Just recently started putting 3-4 gallons of Speedtek's 101 octane.... <---this is what my car looks like after a fill-er-up at speektek and <---this is what I look like shortly thereafter!
GM pays 7.2 hours for replacement of both sensors. Tell the dealer to order the parts, make an early morning appointment to have the sender(s) replaced. Keep the tank full and drive it. It is ludicrous for the dealer to expect you to leave the car there in their lot for a week.
