[Z06] Plastic window molding replacement question

Plastic window molding replacement question
I originally posted this in the C5 group, the realized they wouldn't have this issue. Has anyone seen this before?

The drivers side molding has cracked in 4 places on my 03 Z06 and the passenger side is beginning to do the same.
I took it to the dealership this morning. They said they had never seen that kind of damage before and suspected I had put something on the molding to crack it. They agreed to order the part and have it repaired under warranty (we'll see how long that takes).
My question for you is - the plastic being broken is an annoyance that I'd like to have fixed, but I would rather have the cracked plastic than have the dealer screw up the weatherstripping, etc.
Is this something you've seen before? Would you let the dealership do the repair?

Mine has one crack on the passenger side, my wife did it holding on to the moulding getting out of the car.
I have a friend that had his replaced and now he has wind noise after several visits to the dealer, so I left mine alone.
