Default Question On 1/4 racing

I'm hoping to race my 2002 EB zo6 for the 1st time tomorrow at Englishtown/Corvette Challenge. I've only had the car for 3 months and It's my 1st stick. I've raced alot in the challenge, but in my 91 automatic L98 vette. I think I'm used to the shifting now, but not sure how to do the burnout. I installed a line lock and have mickey thompson et street radials. Also installed Vararam VB2, Kooks 1 3/4 long tube headers, high flow cats and retuned the computer on the dyno at Carteck.
Do i engage the line lock then apply gas while feathering off the throttle in 2nd gear or off the clutch quickly? I'm not looking to do much of a burnout since those tires need little or no burnout per micky thompson. I'm hoping to see mid 11's

Not sure how much you know, so this is probebly more than you need:

1. Drive around the water box - then back up to where your tires are in the wet part of the ramp, do NOT go all the way into the box. Give the tires a quick spin - one rotation, in 1st gear, to get them wet. (remember to take the car out of reverse - don't laugh, I have seen a few forget).

2. Drive forward to where you are just out of the wet part.

3. Stop, push the clutch in, and push the brake down all the way. Then engage the line lock. Release the brake, the line lock should hold the car.

4. Put the car in 2nd gear, rev up to about 3000 RPM's, dump the clutch and stand on the fun pedal hard. Wath the speedo, if the engine is racing and the speedometer isn't moving that smell is the clutch ...

5. Once you see that you have good wheen spin and the speedometer is up over 60 MPH or so count to 4, then release the lind lock while standing on the fun pedal. Let the car "walk" out of the burn-out.

6. As soon as you feel the tires grab let off the gas, put in the clutch, and roll forward to Stage.

Good luck ... and I think mid 11's on sticky tires on an otherwise stock Z06 is asking a bit much, especially for your first time with a stick.

Ranger has posted some good advice on shift points and launch techniques on this forum - do a search for his name, it is an excellent place to start.

And one more thing .. enjoy!

Les

PS .. you can test the operation of your line lock in a parking lot somewhere - to get comfortable with the feel of it when engaged.

Here is a link of Ranger's Launch Techniques. I followed these and more info from Dr Ron. My 5th pass on BFG 315's netted the time below in sig. I am putting a list together on stockish times and one for bolt ons.

They want you to drive through it - why?

Way too many cars are racing at this track. It would take too long to race. We usually have 80+ vettes at our corvette challenge races and there are always several other classes of cars & motorcylces racing along side us in the other staging lanes. So maybe 300-400 vehicles are racing together, 2 at a time. That alone takes some time for everyone to make just one pass. So if you add in backing into the water box... you get the picture?

Makes sense from that standpoint .. and it is a very fast track so who am I to say .. I just have a "thing" about seeing people with large front radial tires draging water through the box and up on the track. This is the first I have heard of a track that doesn't allow you to back up to the box.

Learn something new every day .. thanks.
