Default Road trip question

I'm going to be taking my C5 Delaware to Texas and back later this summer (about 3,500 miles). Would it be worth it to pick up a front bra for the trip? I'm a little concerned about some wear occuring if it flaps or chaffs. If recommended which brand? Nothing real expensive please as this is likely to be the only road trip.

Thanks

if i were taking a trip of that length in our vette, i'd grab a bra in a minute. seems to me like it'd be relatively cheap insurance for the stuff that is amazingly attracted to that front end. btw, we love the lewes, bethany & rehoboth areas of delaware; took our vette there about 3 wks ago. safe trip. bub

GREAT QUESTION!

My opnion...YES.

I am getting ready to fly to SEATTLE this August and drive cross country to BG, Kentucky and then down to Gainesville, FL and then up to Charleston, SC and I bought a GM Bra for the trip. $120 from WCC. I do recommend that you call the manufacture about the snaps on the quater panel, they are crappy thin thread designs and a PITA to get on. If you need some help, email me or call: (843)245-8624.

Micah

P.S. It is going to be fun!

Absolutely get one. We just drove 3600 miles and it saved my paint at least twice. Get the GM bra.....great fit and value. $75 from Fichtner.

I have used the $75 GM bra for the past three years for road trips only.

It works great, no scuffing on paint yet. However, before I put it on I make sure the front facia has a good coat of wax.

Even with a bra I have picked up paint chips on my hood, door and TOP!

Have fun, there is nothing better than a road trip in a vette!

Road trips are awesome. I too have used the GM bra for 3 plus. I've never had a problem. The fit is good, the coverage is good. Once the initial install in done the re-install for a trip is a two minute deal. I use it for anything over two hundred miles. Easy on, easy off.

If you want I guess it would be okay. I have had my '04 since Nov 04 and have put about 8,500 miles of major road trips on her without a bra.

Thing to remember is that it is a car and a car that is driven is going to get nicks no matter what you do. In that 3500 mile trip more than likely you will get less dings and nicks then you would in 3500 miles of local driving.

On question, why "this is likely to be the only road trip."? The C5 is a GREAT road car. To me it is the only way to travel. In the few months that I have had the '04 we have put two trips of 3,000, one trip of 1,500, and another of 1,000 on her. Only way to go

get one, but if you take lots of trips I would get a real good one. Where in Texas are you going, if it's San Antonio Call me I'll buy you a real steak. Down there we do it like the sea food places with the lobster tanks, you pick the steer you want, than we cook it.

Get the bra. I bought the GM bra and it fits great. I just got from Midwest Motorworks matching (black like the GM bra) vinyl mirror covers for road trips. The mirrors take bug hits just like the front end. Midwest has the mirror covers on sale now for $29.99. Normally, they are $60. You won't regret your decision to buy this "protection." Have a great trip. Dan

I've been running the GM bra for about 4 years now and no sign of any paint damage. It really does fit well and sure protects the front end. Cost will be about $75 - best buy out there IMO.

Just be aware that installing the snaps (to the body) can be a little tricky. Dealer where I bought mine installed it for free.

We took off on a 2000 mile roadtrip when our '04 C5 coupe had less than 400 miles on it, last July. I had ordered a SpeedLingere body colored bra, and it fit perfectly, totally protected the nose, and there was no scuffing, scratching or marring. BUT, it was pricey. The consensus seems to be that a GM bra will do the job for you. As has been mentioned, give the nose a good coat of wax before installing, make sure the nose is perfectly clean, and try for a real snug fit. If you blast through any rainstorms, it might be a good idea to remove it afterwards and reclean everything with fresh water. Have a good, safe trip.

For your great road trip,
nothing goes with a bra like a nice cup holder!

Wish I had the mirror covers when I went to Cruise-in 6 this past May, my mirrors look like they have been sandblasted.
