Default spark plug replacement

2This is the first time that I have wanted to replace spark plugs on the c5, how do I remove the plug wires? I have pulled on them and I cannot get the boots off. Do I need a tool?

not exactly sure on a stock LS1, but on mine, all i did was wiggle and pull the spark plug wires str8 off...they tend to kinda fuse themselves on with the heating cycles...

the plugs are easy as well...for me at least, took me about 45min all said and done. the only pain in the butt one was the one next to the oil dipstick...just unbolt the dipstick and ur good to roll...

make sure to use anti sieze on the plugs and some of that electrical goop on the tip of the spark plug where the wire plugs into.. makes for better contact.

Pull harder, but grab it as far down on the boot as you can. Do not just pull on the wire...

Good Luck

Peace

If you've got a bunch of miles and live in a high temp zone just change the wires at the same time. May not be worth saving.

twist them as you pull - they'll come off.

I think the two things you should have are anti-seize compound and dielectric grease.

Put a dab of the anti seize compound on the threads of the spark plug before you screw it in. I take a Q-Tip and put a dab of the dielectric grease on it and wipe it on the inside of the spark plug boot before I put it back on the spark plug. It may help prevent what you have now; the boot practically fusing itself to the spark plug.

I forgot to mention you can get anti-seize compound and dielectric grease at any of the auto parts stores like NAPA, Pep Boys, etc. Each comes in a tube.

Pep Boys has a tool for removing the spark plug wires. It's only a couple of dollars. It a piece of metal that has a handle and a 90 degree bend at the bottom and a slot for the spark plug and it hooks under the bottom lip of the spark plug boot. You don't have to pull on the wire or touch the boot at all.

Change the wires if you're going to change the plugs. I went with the MSD's 8.5mm
