I'm getting ready to do my A4 to 6 speed swap, I think I have everything I need.
What do I need to do with the computer. Has any one done this? I just want to do it right the first time with next to no problems.
Also if there's anything else I should need to know, I would appreicate the help.
Keep in mind I'll have an A4 set up for sale soon....
From what I have read- you should have the computer from a 6 speed to put in...not sure if you can do something to the A4 computer...or what happens if the A4 computer is now working a M6 car...I believe I read that it can show error codes if not from an M6.
Sorry if this info is a little weak- but I read it on a swap thread a while back.
I've read that too, I've also heard of people reprograming or removing prongs and keeping the existing ECM, the guy I'm buying the six speed set up from is using his A4 ECM....

If you are currently running an automatic and had the CLB done, you wasted money....CLB only pertains to MN6's between certain years. Auto's weren't affected by the column lock after 2001. (I believe that's the correct year). It's good to have it now though since you're headed for the swap. Lemme know how it goes (process, cost, time involved)

If you bring that modified beast to a dealer they'll probably try to sell you a band adjustment and a new tranny filter. Just don't let them drive it. They'll leave it in "park" on a slope.
You don't need a computer but instead a program for a car with a 6 speed and there is also a difference between the M6 and M12 programs.
I recently did alot of work on my motor converting it back to stock and when I was done I uploaded a program from an 03 coupe with a M6 tranny and then changed all of the transmission settings to suit my auto, when I took it out for a test drive the first thing I noticed was the car was in third gear all of the time unless I shifted manually and then I noticed that I didn't have any trans temp displayed either.
I talked to someone about this and he said it is part of the base program and can't be changed using the standard tuning software and I have since found in the base program where it displays the trans type in the program, the A4 is a trans type "0", I can't remember what the other 2 are so I'll have to check that when I get home. As soon as I uploaded the proper program for an 03 Vette with a trans type of "0" or automatic my car was fine, I just had to retune the engine.

Just curious about a ballpark price for a swap? Being that the car is pretty much stock, it migt be easier/less trouble to just trade it in for a MN6, but i'm still curious to know how much it would run.
I paid about $3700 for parts from Gene at Gene's Kar Shop. Paid $2000 for labor, labor did include other work. I decided to go ahead with the swap because I really liked the car and I thought I would take a huge hit on trade-in if I bought a new car. Glad I did it - haven't looked back.

I had it done after I got stuck one day unable to turn the steering wheel after the car was started, that was a PITA. no problems since I got it back, they even sent me a recall card, Gm is so thoughtful....

I just emailed JR tonight, thanks for the info. I've been going back and forth on this for quite awhile, just want to make sure I get all the info. It sounds like it worked out for you, anything else I should know??
