Had the 3 Delco year old battery in my 2002 Tahoe started leaking. The positive post corroded and fell all the way out. Acid leaked into the battery tray and rusted it but I have corrected all of that. Baking soda rinse, new paint and parts. No damage to the body or frame. Tray took the abuse.
Is this the type of failure people were seeing in their Vettes? If so I need to rip the delco out of my 04 vette. Looks like a lot of people try the Optima batteries. What's the difference between the red and yellow top versions?

Your 04 should have a top post battery, so I would not think you would have the same problem as with side post batteries.
Someone needs to come out with a good set of adapters to convert cars with side terminal batteries to top post.
GM went to the top post AC-Delco battery for the C5 in model year 2004 due to the number of premature failures they were experiencing with the AC-Delco AGM batteries. I have yet to see anyone here post anything about leakage problems with the AC-Delco top post battery used in 2004 or the AC-Delco AGM battery for that matter used from 2001 through 2003. It was the AC-Delco lead acid side post batteries prior to this that were having the leakage problem.

Yep exactly the problem with the earlier Delco Batts with the top post. The positive one worked lose from the batt from vibration and cause the aicd leak do a lot of damage if undetected. You did it right with the baking soda wash down and paint...go a lil further and spray the entire area down with WD40.
The difference between the red top and yellow top. Yellow is a deep cycling battery. I and many others went for the red top. I've had mine 2 years and car sets in winter months, no problem starting after sitting. I'm in the Bay area also (Napa area).
Good luck of your choice. My $.02

I picked up my 2000 torch red in December 2004. After all of the great info from this forum, I pro-acted and changed out the Delco for the Optima red top. "Just in case".. after all we are seeing with the Delcos, I fell I made a very wise investment. Duds
