Default Leather Seat Difference?

Background: I have a 98 Coupe and my neighbor had his nissan reupholstered with leather and it looked real nice. He knows the guy that owns this place and they handle a ton of local dealership work. So he was talking to them for me about redoing my vette. They told him today that their computers don't show a leather kit for the 1998, but it shows kits for the 97, 99, 2000, etc. etc. The only year that was skipped was the 1998. Not sure why. But aren't the seats the same across all the years?

I don't like how the leather is real loose on the seats I have and it looks like it has creases all over it. The leather grade just wasn't there in the stock car in my opinion. Plus I want to change the color etc.

Can someone confirm that the seats are the same across 97-04 models and just the leather style changed?

The only difference I can think of is the Sport seats vs the base seat. You will need to replace the foam as well. Good luck

The mentioned something to my friend about wanting to know if there was a hole in the head rest of the seat.

What is the visual difference between the sport and base seat?

A 97 or 99 cover will fit your 98!

I believe if you have the "hole" they are sport seats. The solid seats are standard seats. I believe the Z06 seats are similar to the standard seats except for the Z06 emblem.

In 2000 they changed the seat bolster material from leather to vinyl to get rid of the wear problem the early cars had.

You didn't mention whether your car has the AR9 base seats or the AQ9 sport seats. However, if you have the AQ9 sports seats, my parts list shows there was a change made to these seats sometime in mid model year 1998. This could possibly explain why your upholsterer couldn't find a kit for 1998.

The first design 1998 AQ9 seats used a 2 bladder bolster system like the ones for model year 1997. The second design 1998 AQ9 seats used a 1 bladder bolster system like in model year 1999. In looking at the part numbers for the OEM/factory seat skins and pads for each of these model years (1997, 1998, and 1999), there did not appear to be any changes that I could see. However, I do not know this to be the case for certain.

You may want to discuss this with your upholsterer and see what he suggests/recommends. It may be that he will need to know which design your seats are in order for him to determine which of his kits to use. Whether one of your local Chevy dealers possibly could help you determine the design of your seats from your car's VIN, I do not know. But, it may be worth a try.

Hope this helps and good luck.

No difference in the seats between the years that I know of. The sport seats have an opening about where your neck will hit.
