Default Accidents only a Vette could avoid!

I had a come to Jesus incident Sunday. I was driving down a 2 lane at about 50 MPH when a big black old Lincoln ( old gray haired lady driving) pulled out in front of me. Wife was with me, and we would have either t-boned or been t-boned, on her side. A car was coming in the other lane, but I had just enough time to snap the vette to the left around the Lincoln, and add power to get around her grill instead of t-boning her. I then snapped back into my lane before a head-on with the oncoming car! I shifted into 5th looked at my wife who had stoped screaming and said "that was intense". As I drove on the lady just sat in the middle of the road, probably scared the crap out of her. It struck me that what she saw was the dis-embodied head of my wife sreaming past the huge a$$ hood of her car. We had the top down and she probably never saw the vette, just the head!

I couldn't have done it in the Lexus or the Denali. Only the Vette. Truth is I feel kind of invincible in it because of the increadible responsiveness.

Any other good stores only vette could pulled off?

A couple years back I was in the right lane of a 2-lane parkway near my house with a LONG-AZZ limo on my left and a car behind me. Without as much as a turn signal the limo decided it wanted my lane. I would have slammed the brakes if it weren't for the car behind me. Luckily there happened to be a right turn lane so I downshifted and accelerated (WOT) around the limo and back in to my lane in front of it as I barely missed the curb at the end of the turn lane. Once I realized I made it through unscathed and my heart rate came back down I thought it was kinda fun. Definitely a rush.

I had the same thing happen to me, (but I was by myself), and I made it around the car... but the car that was behind me T-Boned the car that pulled out BIG TIME! Sort of strange seeing that in the rear view as I collected myself.

I stopped, made sure everyone was OK and told the LEO what I saw. He asked how I made it around the car that pulled out and the lady behind me hit the car. I just pointed at my car and he smiled.

I was riding the freeway at around 100 on a road trip once and everyone in front of me just decided to slam on the brakes for no reason...Of course they did this over a hill so I only saw it at the last minute...Lucky the C5 stops on a dime, I was able to slam on the brakes, down shift hard, and slide to a stop inches before the big hold up...However what I didn't realize was that not everyone can stop like I do! I had to watch a truck towing a trailer barrel right towards me with NO chance of stopping, and there was nothing I could do to get out of the way since I was surrounded...Luckily he swerved into the grass and narrowly avoided totaling my vulnerable car from behind

I had a similar expreience with a pair of does earlier this year. Flick wheel left, put go pedal to the floor, then slam wheel to the right. My passenger didn't even see the deer until they were in the rear-view.

Corvettes are very responsive cars!

Glad you made it out without any damage.

Good save! This potential for this kind of incident is why I leave Active Handling enabled....

Little different set of circumstances. Our neighbourhood gets clogged with vans supporting large "Garage Sale" signs parked so close to the corner they ruin any chance of seeing whats coming! I pull out carefully and see an old pontiac barreling towards me at about 70 kph and I unfortunately had the front of the Vette very committed. Put the go pedal down and went! Scared myself how fast I cleared the intersection and easily pulled into the flow of traffic. Just caught the young Pontiac drivers face - jaw on the wheel.

Love the responsiveness!

About 2 weeks ago I was on Rt 17 here in North Jersey. I was driving north and was doing some logging with my computer since I was in the middle of tuning. I pulled over to the side of the road to do a couple of edits. I had pulled about 80 feet past a turn off, no on ramp, just an off ramp. This spot was on an upgrade on a sweeping right hand turn and in the middle of the day with light traffic on the road. I looked down at my computer and made my edits and when I looked up I saw the azz end of o big Lincoln Towne Car on the shoulder backing up towards me at around 30mph I leaned on my horn but he wasn't stopping. Must have had the window closed with the air conditioning and radio on and was probably getting an earful for missing the exit from his blue-headed wife. He was hell bent on getting to that off ramp he missed. I looked in my drivers side mirror and there was a car coming up fast at around 60mph. I banged it into first and got on it out from behind that lead-sled, tires smoking, Stingers wailing, and banged second as I got even with his door. By the time he was where I was, I was going 60mph and out of danger. You should have seen the look on his face as I was almost hitting the rev-limiter as I went by. Limiter is set to 6800rpm's. I wasn't into it all the way either, had to keep some traction, but those stingers told him much clearer than my horn that he messed up. Scared the daylights out of me. From now on I pull into a parking lot to do any edits while on the road. Sheesh!

Glad you had the reflexes to miss the Lincoln. Got to always be on the lookout for people who are not paying attention to their driving.

wow; what a story. i've long thought that, in certain circumstances (such as you described) offensive or extremely aggressive driving such as only a vette can give can keep you out of the soup. hope i never have to do it. bub

Been in a similar scenario, had to clean the leather seating surface...talk about a helpless feeling in the rearview mirror............
